| Desc | CanCare is a network of trained volunteers including cancer survivors, family members of cancer survivors and medical professionals who provide emotional support to others facing cancer. CanCare trains groups of volunteers four+ times a year. The 17-hour training course is broken up over three days and is designed to prepare volunteers to help others cope with the physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of their cancer experience. Following this training, volunteers may attend continuing education and support opportunities to learn more about cancer and the needs of cancer patients and their families.During 2014, CanCare's programs touched many lives including: 3,899 people received one-on-one support13,502 patients were visited in hospitals by CanCare volunteers17,375 people received one-time listening support, information & resources10,654 people attended outreach programs77 new volunteers attended training140 volunteers attended continuing education programs772 currently active support volunteers51 health fairs and speaking engagements were attended by CanCare personnel and volunteers. 51 HEALTH FAIRS AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS ATTENDED BY CANCARE | Desc |
