| Part X, Line 2: | The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under this guidance, the Association may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the Association, and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBIT). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50 percent likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities during the reporting periods presented herein. The Association files Forms 990 in the U.S. federal jurisdiction and the State of Illinois. The Association is generally no longer subject to examination by the Internal Revenue Service for years before 2011. |

| Explanation | The annual AMA-Sheth Doctoral Consortium is a premier event in for the marketing discipline. Through the consortium, Ph.D. candidates are exposed to state-of-the-art perspectives and emerging themes in the marketing profession. Thought leaders in research and practice are invited to provide a stimulating experience for doctoral candidates as they prepare to launch their careers. Life-long professional relationships often develop through the consortium experience. The consortium was established in 1965 and since that time has been funded, in part, by the AMA. Since 1996 additional support has been provided by the Sheth Foundation. The Consortium is a flagship event because of the quality and prestige that is associated with the content, faculty and students who are invited to attend. One doctoral candidate is nominated from each of the leading marketing PhD.-granting universities in the world. Over several days, the Consortium provides the opportunity to dialogue, debate, and develop mutual research interests. The Consortium also provides the opportunity to learn about developing a full and successful career that recognizes the multiple demands (research, teaching, professional service, family) placed on today's leading academics. Host schools are selected through a call for proposals. Proposals are reviewed by a committee led by the President-Elect of the Academic Council. Host schools are selected based on their plans for the program and are identified more than a year prior to the dates proposed for the event.
