| Desc | Solar Cookers International promoted solar cooking knowledge, particularly in regions where people live on less than $1.25 per day. These regions are often rich in solar energy. When collected and concentrated in a specially-designed cooker, people can use free, no-emission solar energy for cooking food and pasteurizing drinking water. Solar cooking technologies relieve the burden of human respiratory and waterborne diseases caused by household air pollution and contaminated drinking water. SCI worked with community-based project partners in East Africa (Kenya) and South Asia (Nepal) and other countries with a high Global Hunger Index (GHI). Nearly 1,000 households in Kisumu County, Kenya, and in the region of Kathmandu, Nepal received solar cooking and/or safe water technologies with SCIs support. Each solar cooker has the potential to save up to 1 tonne of wood annually. SCI organizes and leads the Solar Cookers International Association and Network, which includes 350+ member organizations worldwide, creating innovative and disruptive solutions to global household energy poverty. SCI supports the worlds largest and most comprehensive solar cooking resource, www.solarcooking.org, which receives a quarter million page visits per month, and hosts and sponsors international and regional conventions for solar cooking experts. Through its Economic and Social Council special consultative status at the United Nations, SCI speaks with one voice to advocate for clean cooking solutions as a key driver in the post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda.SCI continues to provide leadership and resources for 350+ solar cookingpartners worldwide in the fields of solar cooking research, designs, standards, evaluation, advocacy, and project implementation. | Desc |
