| Desc | CanCare is a network of trained volunteers including cancer survivors, family members of cancer survivors and medical professionals who provide emotional support to others facing cancer. CanCare trains groups of volunteers four+ times a year. The 13-hour training course is broken up over three days and is designed to prepare volunteers to help others cope with the physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of their cancer experience. Following this training, volunteers may attend continuing education and support opportunities to learn more about cancer and the needs of cancer patients and their families.During 2015, CanCare's programs touched many lives including: 3,419 people received one-on-one support10,928 patients were visited in hospitals by CanCare volunteers14,247 people received one-time listening support, information & resources26,739 people attended outreach programs61 new volunteers attended training135 volunteers attended continuing education programs730 currently active support volunteers48 health fairs and speaking engagements were attended by CanCare personnel and volunteers | Desc |
