Included in these villages are homes supported by our GK USA teams in CA, NV, TX, FL, NY and NJ, the University of Santo Tomas Medical School Alumni, Barclays, Martins, and other generous partners. Through the efforts of GK USA teams in CA, AL, OK, TX, IN, MA and NJ, 90 more homes were funded in over 12 different communities in the Philippines to assist families living in slum environments, exposed to serious sanitary health issues, high criminality rates, and other negative forces that further degrade their dignity as human beings.Desc

$29,402$28,402DISASTER RELIEF - On October 18, 2015, another super typhoon, Lando (International name: Koppu), made landfall in the Philippines. Many areas were severely flooded, with 295,835 families evacuated and 46 reported deaths. GK USA activated a flash appeal in the United States asking its network of volunteers and advocates to work together to support affected communities in the Philippines. Funds were raised for disaster relief and to provide food packs to vulnerable populations in affected communities. Each food pack costs $5 and will feed a family of five (5) for two days. GK USA immediately released $10,000 towards relief efforts on the ground. As a response to the needs arising from poor families being displaced because of a man-made disaster, the ongoing armed-conflict between rebel insurgents and the Philippine Armed Forces in the surrounding areas of Mamasapano in Maguindanao, GK activated Kalinga Maguindanao. GK USA supported the feeding program to provide meals to help these poor families in evacuation centers near the conflict area, conduct play therapy activities for the children, and install water wells to increase the water supply. Also, GK USA partners raised funds for disaster rehabilitation projects in the Bicol Region, consistently in the path of typhoons in the Philippines.
$26,470$25,470SEED UNIVERSITY - Launched in August 2014, The School for Experiential & Entrepreneurial Development (SEED Philippines) is the first school for social entrepreneurship in the country to provide an innovative, education-based solution to rural development through education and hands-on learning. It will provide full student scholarships to high potential and talented public school students, who otherwise will not be able to afford to pursue higher learning. It is a 2-year program focused on social entrepreneurship and agriculture combining academics (mind), hands-on experience (hands) and character development (heart) to raise social entrepreneurs who will be instrumental in catalyzing inclusive economic growth in the countryside. The school will promote agriculture as an attractive career path through course offerings in agribusiness, culinary arts, food processing, agri-ecotourism, and arts and crafts. In 2015, GK USA through the generosity of GK partners in Illinois, funding was provided for 6 SEED scholarships and one SEED Dormitory.
$16,750$15,750LEARNING CENTER - To assist GK communities provide the right environment for learning among the young, GK USA funded the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 1 Sibol Learning Center in Typhoon Haiyan area through the generosity of the Sikad Cycling Group in CA
$13,495$12,495CHILD YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - This program nurtures and develops the young through an age-specific, values-based program that helps them reach their fullest potential. Many poor children are unable to attend school and enjoy studying because they have to scavenge for food or work very early in life to help their families. The children of GK beneficiaries, who are actively participating as members of the SIGA youth program in GK, aspire to have a good future and this can be achieved through quality education. In their own vision of helping their families, they wish to acquire a college degree so that they can help their parents and their families. To enable them to study in a college or university, a WA couples ongoing support provided 10 college scholarships. In addition, a recycling campaign by one GK Champion in CA provided funds for 5 college scholarships and through their company matching program, one mother and son tandem funded teachers salaries in one GK community.
