Desc	In 2015 Supporting Kids Foundation (SKF) provided over $191,000 in assistance to 86 families with 67 of those families receiving assistance for the first time. This all volunteer organization receives most of its referrals from the Children's Mercy Hospital Network and the University of Kansas Hospital system. SKF helps families with children in the hospital to cover such expenses as rent and mortgage payments, utility bills, car repairs and gasoline. In the most unfortunate cases SKF has paid for a child's funeral expenses. SKF raises funds to help families in need to cover day to day expenses so they can focus on their child's health rather their financial short falls. Since its inception, SKF has helped 263 families by giving them over $504,000.	Desc

Explanation	Assistance provided to families is based upon referrals by social workers at the hospitals where the children are being treated for cancer. The social worker completes a form requesting assistance on behalf of the family along with the type and amount of assistance requested. A committee of three board members from Supporting Kids Foundation reviews the request and can approve requests less than $3,000 if at least two board members vote in the affirmative. For requests greater than $3,000, the entire board is included for approval. In most cases the request is fulfilled by payment directly to the specific vendor such as utility, landlord, mortgage company, etc. If the family has already paid the invoice, the family is reimbursed for the expense by Supporting Kids Foundation.
