DescAspire Club is an after school program designated to reach the youth in public schools who are waiting for a mentor. Every Thursday for an hour we engage with the children in fun activities, read through various resources, build relationships as well as provide a free snack. This is a time where kids have shared some of the hardships they are currently facing and our volunteers do an excellent job encouraging and loving on the children. We have had over 125 students involved in Aspire Club in the last 4 years, many of whom we have provided a mentor to walk alongside of in life on life. We partner with the Fellows Ministry at Briarwood Presbyterian Church who provides 12 recent college graduates to come and invest in the lives of the young people. we also have many other church volunteers come and provide care and compassion for the youth. This is a time where people can explore if Aspire is a good fit for them.Desc

This is where we match godly men and women with 4th or 5th grade students to make a commitment to walk alongside them, building a long term relationship that is mutually transforming. Our mentors typically spend an average of 5 hours a month with their student. We ask our mentors to meet at least two times a month with the student in a variety of contexts. Mentoring takes place everywhere and most times is done simply getting to know one another.Desc

DescInspirational experiences are common among suburban youth. But many of our students in the inner city have a death of ambition because they see the world from a very narrow perspective. Therefore, we provide outlets for them to dream and aspire to new heights. These events include going to the Civil Rights Institute, Barons baseball games, bike riding at Oak Mountain State Park, ice cream socials, Cookouts, volunteer projects, and many other exciting things. We also provide an opportunity for 15-20 students to go to Kids Across America in Branson, Missouri. This is a week long summer camp devoted to equipping next generation urban leaders. The camp is Christ centered and offers a wide array of fun activities as well as spiritual mentoring from counselors who are prepared and trained to work with urban youth. For most of our kids it is their first time leaving the city, much less the state. The majority have come back with an enlarged world view.Desc

Form 990 governing body review Part VI line 11Prior to completion of this 990, a draft was reviewed in detail by Jason Williams, President & Director. After his review, he provided feedback and review notes to 20-20 Accounting Solutions. Upon addressing these notes, a final draft was provided to Mr. Williams to ensure all changes were made satisfactorily. Upon his approval, the return was filed with no further changes.

The board considers the compensation plans of similar roles at various comparable non-profits as well as the the Executive Directors qualifications, degrees, and past performance. A consensus is reached and documented in the board minutes.

General explanation attachmentForm 990, Part I, Line 1, Primary Exempt Purpose - The mission of Aspire Movement is to address the urban crisis by providing mentors as advocates for at-risk urban youth, to provide structure and support for mentors through a network of resources to be used for the personal growth and development of students, and to prevent high school dropout, teenage pregnancy and overall crime in the community by encouraging and providing means for at-risk youth to flourish.
