Mission	Solar Cookers International improves human and environmental health by supporting the expansion of effective carbon-free solar cooking in world regions of greatest need. Desc	Solar Cookers International (SCI) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit dedicated to improving human and environmental health by supporting the expansion of effective carbon-free solar cooking in world regions of greatest need. SCI leads through advocacy, research, and strengthening the capacity of the global solar cooking movement. Because cooking duties fall mostly on the shoulders of women and girls in many parts of the world, SCI weaves a strong network of global partners to empower vulnerable women in world regions of greatest need. SCI has a long-term strategy to respond to the accelerating global demand for solar-thermal cooking technologies. SCI is the worldwide hub for international solar cooking advocacy, capacity building, and research. SCI strengthens grassroots solar cooking activities globally, and advocates for clean, sustainable alternative cooking solutions through the United Nations and other international forums. SCI connects 500+ partners in 130+ countries to amplify global solar cooking adoption and help people in vulnerable regions as they build resilience in a rapidly changing world.SCIs analysis of partner data reveals that CO2 emissions have been reduced by an estimated at least 25 tons since 1990 the beneficial equivalent of planting 604 million trees. Global data analyzed by SCI suggests that since 1990, more than 4 billion meals have been prepared by more than 3.2 million solar cookers, using free solar energy and reducing emissions. SCIs long-term plans focus on scaling up to accelerate impacts. In FY 2016-2017, SCI continued working with grassroots partners on two continents in the countries of Nepal and Tanzania. On the Human Development Index (HDI 2016), Nepal ranks 144/188 and Tanzania, 151/188. Recent data collected from trusted, community-based partners, evaluations of project-based work verified that solar cooks reported 44% fewer smoke-related health problems and saved 25-50% of their household fuel budget. SCI directly supported Nepalese project partner Foundation for Sustainable Technologies (FOST) in providing training, solar cookers, solar dryers, and/or heat retained baskets to more than 150 people. SCI made significant progress in its goal to develop a performance evaluation for solar cooker technologies. SCI is an internationally credible, objective body promoting all high-quality, durable, affordable solar cooking technologies for use in all vulnerable regions of the world. In FY 2017-2018, SCI established two additional Regional Testing and Knowledge Centers (RTKCs) to apply SCIs performance evaluation process (PEP) that measures the power of solar cookers in Watts. Based on the ASAE 580.1 standard that harmonizes with the International Organization of Standards (ISO), evaluation results provide customers--such as individuals, and UN agencies--with an objective, reliable evaluation protocol of solar cooking technologies. The PEP sets high quality and performance standards for solar cooking technologies, providing a scientific process to prove performance ratings locally. In this way, SCI helps build local economies and sector capacity, too.Through active advocacy at the High Level Political Forum and other United Nations conferences, SCI provided data to the United Nations by right of its special consultative status, and advocated for inclusion of solar cooking in grassroots activities and sustainable energy policy to help achieve the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and advocate for supportive clean, sustainable energy policy. SCI ADVOCATES FOR INCLUSION OF SUSTAINABLE CLEAN COOKING TECHNOLOGIES TO ACHIEVE NATIONAL CLIMATE ACTION PLANS UNDER THE PARIS AGREEMENT. SCIs advocacy at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP23) provided information and data to national ministers seeking solutions for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to meet the Paris Agreement 2015 goals. SCI builds sector capacity by continued maintenance and improvement of the Solar Cooking wiki, the premier source of solar cooking globally www.solarcooking.org. In nine months, SCI made over 50,000 edits in this resource to provide current, high-quality solar cooking resources to partners around the globe in 37 languages capable of being read by 4 billion readers worldwide. SCI published 21 volumes of its online publication, the SCI Digest. With a distribution list of 3,000+ worldwide, this publication provides the most up-to-date news for the solar cooking sector, helps partners to network, and advertises funding, education, and award opportunities to build the capacity of SCI Associates and partners worldwide. In addition, SCI webinars hosted by the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves expanded the technologic and strategic knowledge of solar cooking technologies for an additional 500 high-impact stakeholders.SCI looks to a future where solar thermal technologies are readily available for people everywhere who need clean, sustainable, free-energy solutions for their cooking and safe-drinking-water needs. SCI is exempt from income taxes under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code, and is considered a publicly supported organization. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been included in the accompanying financial statements.SCI has accounted for uncertainty of income taxes as required by the Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes topic of the FASB Accounting Standards Codification. SCI uses a comprehensive model for recognizing, and measuring, presenting and disclosing in the financial statements tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return. A tax position is recognized as a benefit only if it is "more likely than not" that the tax position would be sustained in a tax examination, with a tax examination being presumed to occur. The amount recognized is the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized on examination. For tax positions not meeting the "more likely than not" test, no tax benefit is recorded. The effect of applying this model and the resulting identification of uncertain tax positions, if any, were not considered significant for financial reporting purposes.
