DescFocused Assessments The College Board's SAT Suite of Assessments, which includes the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9, measures what students are learning in class and what they'll need to succeed in college and career. The Suite connects students with fee waivers, scholarship opportunities, free personalized practice and college and career planning tools. More than 1.8 million students in the class of 2017 took the SAT at least once during high school-the largest SAT cohort in history; 25% received fee waivers. During the 2016-17 school year, the College Board provided low-income students with $66M in SAT fee waivers and $3M in PSAT waivers. * More than 7.3 million test takers completed the SAT or a PSAT-related assessment. * Nearly 4.3 million students took the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10. * A record 1.3 million students took the PSAT 8/9. 42% of students who took the SAT or a PSAT-related assessment also took an SAT Suite assessment a year earlier, providing: a baseline to monitor progress toward college readiness, access to practice tools, and suggestions to improve readiness. The SAT Suite provides benchmarks and consistent feedback for measuring student progress over time, allowing teachers to accelerate students who are ahead and help those who are behind.Desc

DescAP, Instruction and Personalized Practice Advanced Placement Program: Founded in 1955, the Advanced Placement Program gives students the opportunity to take college-level work in high school. Students who succeed in AP are more likely to succeed in college and can potentially earn valuable college credit and advanced placement. 1.17 million students in the class of 2017 took at least one AP Exam and 58% of AP test takers worldwide earned a score of 3 or higher. $36M in fee reductions were provided for low income students. 22,169 high schools offer AP courses. AP Potential: A free web-based tool that helps educators increase access to AP by using SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 score data to identify students with the potential to succeed in AP. More than 5,800 schools accessed this tool to find more AP-ready students. SpringBoard: SpringBoard is an instructional program for grades 6-12 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, used by nearly 2 million students. The Program features student materials, teacher resources, and formative and summative assessments, as well as professional learning for teachers and administrators. SpringBoard is in complete alignment with state standards, Advanced Placement (AP) coursework, and the SAT Suite of Assessments.Desc

DescCollege & Career Opportunities & Enrollment The College Board is increasing opportunities and breaking down barriers to college through expanded access to AP courses, other credit-awarding opportunities, scholarships, and fee waivers for all who need them. CLEP: The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), the most widely trusted college-based credit-by-examination program for over 40 years, is accepted by 2,900 colleges and universities and is administered in over 1,700 test centers. CLEP increases opportunities for students by enabling them to earn college credit by demonstrating knowledge they have gained in other settings, such as workforce training and life experience. CLEP exams can save money and time for students of all ages and backgrounds: dual enrollment, home-schooled, continuing education, international, transfer, and military service members and their families. CLEP exams are offered without a fee to certain military service members. Student Search Service: Introduces students to higher education and financial aid opportunities by providing information to colleges and scholarship programs that are looking for students like them-all at no cost to the student. Over 80% of all students use Student Search Service to help them discover colleges and programs they may not have considered. Research shows a connection between opting into Search and subsequent college enrollment: * African American students (43%) * First-generation students (76%) * Low SES students (68%) Expanded scholarship opportunities: When students take the PSAT/NMSQT or the PSAT 10 and say "yes" to the College Board's Student Search Service, the College Board can connect qualified students to more than $230 million in annual scholarships. Fee Waivers: Every student eligible for an SAT fee waiver has easy access to: free SATs, free SAT Subject Tests, Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) or Student Answer Service (SAS) reports, college application benefits, free unlimited score sends, waived application fees at participating colleges, and CSS Profile application fee waivers. CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE: Used by nearly 400 organizations to help manage the financial aid process efficiently and equitably and to award need-based aid to the students who need it most. The College Board has expanded the CSS Profile fee waiver program so that eligible low-income applicants may now apply to an unlimited number of schools, free of charge. $5M in Profile fee waivers were provided. Focus on STEM Disciplines: The College Board is expanding career opportunity by giving students better planning tools and helping them develop the skills that matter most for jobs of the future, including science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP): Gives all students, especially those who are underrepresented in the computer science field, tools and opportunities to pursue careers in STEM. Over 50,000 students signed up to take the AP CSP exam in May 2017.Desc

Form And Line ReferenceSchedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnoteFormAndLineReferenceDesc
ExplanationDeferred tax assets and liabilities are measured using enacted tax rates expected to apply to taxable income in the years in which the temporary differences are expected to be recovered or settled. The effect on deferred tax assets and liabilities of a change in tax rates is recognized in income in the period that includes the enactment date. The Board recognizes in the financial statements only those tax positions determined to be more likely than not of being sustained upon examination, based on the technical merits of the positions under the presumption that the taxing authorities have full knowledge of all relevant facts. The determination of which tax positions are more likely than not of being sustained requires the use of significant judgments and estimates by management, which may or may not be borne out by actual results. As of December 31, 2017, the Board had no reserves for uncertain tax provisions.ExplanationTxt
