DescWe made grants to organizations and paid consultants to organize peer support groups for dozens of environmental activists; mutual aid groups for 500 people; and peer-based educational forums and public events reaching 5,000 people. These efforts provide training in grassroots activism and education in pertinent issues to which this activism is directed. Such efforts are provided for those most directly impacted by the issues of concern and empower them to attain trust, knowledge and competence as they experience those issues of concern and devise their own methods of coping and remedying associated problems. As the affected community empowers itself in these way, it affords strength, durability and resilience at a community level. Mutual aid groups thus cultivate community care as basic social practice that serves to remedy areas of chronic disenfranchisement. Such peer-based activism and education can then employ an "each one teach one" practice that shares knowledge, skills and competency around other related issues and with other similarly challenged disenfranchised communities, replicating its benefits.Desc

ExplanationFor each grant we receive a written proposal. Since we work with a narrow focus in the climate area and also in our geographical area, we typically know our expenditures. At the end of the proposal, we require a written report. Since we have few grantees, we maintain regular contact by phone, email and social media.grantees before we receive a proposal. Often we serve as a fiscal sponsor for our grantees. Most of our grants are repeats. When the proposal is accepted we execute a Memorandum Of Understanding with the grantee. The MOU requires each grantee to limit its activities to those allowed by 501 c 3 organizations and to keep written records of its expenditures. Our policy requires that the Board of Directors review the policy during at least one Board Meeting annually. We circulate the name of any organization we do business with greater than $10,000. Directors must submit annual disclosure statements as well as before election. A conflict must be disclosed immediately and referred to the Board. The Board investigates, determines if conflict exists at meeting with majority of Directors present. If it does exist then alternatives must be considered. If the Board the conflict is fair and reasonable in the interest of the corporation they can approve. Decision must include basis and be recorded in minutes along with alternatives considered
