DescThe AIDS Institute's (TAI) state and federal policy for HIV, viral hepatitis, STD's and health care access is the core of the policy portfolio. They use the social determinants of health to help guide other issues they work on as it relates to barriers and access to prevention, care and treatment. Through their work with the state officials, the administration, executive agencies, congress, media, and national/community partners, they impact social change through improved policies, legislation, and resource allocation. These activities often impact the entire country. While the focus of TAI's mission is HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis, their goal is to prevent new infections for all those at risk, which are often at risk for other STI's. TAI works to ensure prevention, care and treatment are available for everyone regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic region. They fight for those who are living with HIV and hepatitis, and are leaders on issues, process, and focus on impact. TAI's leadership has had significant success in protecting patients' rights, access to healthcare, especially to prescription medications, for patients in many disease groups. TAI is continually leading and convening partners and stakeholders on numerous HIV/AIDS policy and advocacy issues. Some of TAI's successful policy and advocacy activities include: State and Federal policy and program analysis and recommendations; Implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and Plan to End HIV, State and Federal Budget & Appropriations; AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP); Healthcare reform & the Affordable Care Act, Prevention and testing including HIV and hepatitis, Advancing HIV/AIDS Health Policy, State and federal grass roots advocacy, HIV/AIDS education, training, and capacity building; Social, clinical and behavioral research; Policy research initiatives related to hepatitis, housing, nutrition, and global and mental health; Media relations and presentations at national conferences.Desc

DescThe AIDS Institute (TAI) has been managing the Florida Comprehensive Planning Network (FCPN) since 2000. TAI works with the Florida Department of Health and community members to lead, coordinate, and support meetings and all related logistics for the statewide advisory body. HIV community planning is an ongoing comprehensive planning process intended to help assure that resources, particularly federal HIV prevention and care resources, are targeted to populations living with or at risk for HIV infections. The FCPN is a statewide planning body that works to advise the Florida Department of Health to develop comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention and patient care plan. The FCPN consists of nominated and appointed leaders from around the state with expertise in HIV and disease prevention, care, treatment and support services. People living with HIV are also represented in critical leadership roles. TAI also is a member and supports the Florida Viral Hepatitis Council which is the statewide advisory body to FLDOH. Each body and committee advises the Bureau of Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Programs on matters related to HIV prevention, patient care and hepatitis.Desc

DescThe AIDS Institute's (TAI) education programs are expansive in scope and impact. TAI's convening team supports meeting planning, coordination, and logistics for over 100 meetings throughout the year. Many of the meetings and groups support the Florida Department of Health such as the Florida Comprehensive Planning Network and the Consumer Advisory Group (CAG)/ Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) meeting. As part of our education work, TAI planned, and hosted the 6th Annual Rural HIV Research and Training Conference in Savannah, GA. It was a two-day forum for exchanging the latest information and learning the newest tools to address the challenges of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in rural communities. The conference brought together health professionals to share innovative strategies, discuss unique challenges and foster advocacy and community partnerships to address HIV/AIDS prevention, intervention and care, working with children, youth and families in rural communities. Another component of TAI's education and advocacy programs is the Patient Advocacy Leaders (PALS) Initiative. PALS has been a trusted and respected series of patient advocacy meetings considered a best-in-class. This patient-centered initiative was launched in 2002 and has had over 15,000 participants. It was designed to connect diverse health advocacy leaders to improve their advocacy capacity and identify ways to collaborate and unify the voices of many. TAI's leadership in running the program has seen success in its goals, objectives and desired outcomes, while expanding the initiative for growth and sustainability for the future. TAI, in collaboration with the PALS Advisory Board, and other health-related non-profit and for-profit partners, continue to expand the PALS initiative by connecting and convening health care advocates from key stakeholder groups to build capacity in advocacy around existing and emerging health policy issues impacting patients, such as : patient access; quality health care; care coordination; patient-centered care; patient engagement; patient reported outcomes; patient protections; among others. TAI's capacity building & technical assistance, patient advocacy training & support, women & children programs, faith initiatives, public policy & health policy analysis, community and provider education, training & skills building, HIV/AIDS & hepatitis community planning, HIV/AIDS & hepatitis research, communications, convening, conference planning & meeting coordination, and a highly acclaimed intern and fellowship program are just some of the successful programs. This expanded vision and scope of TAI, effectively addresses the many aspects of HIV/AIDS and other chronic disease related issues. Part of TAI's work included the planning, coordination and facilitation of all digital, webinar, e-meetings, and of course small and large scale face-to-face meetings and conferences. This expertise includes the grass roots mobilization needed to gain participation in the proposed program activities. TAI's experience in the preparation of the content and evaluation of all its program activities ensures the best and most efficient uses of the resources available including the management & coordination of over 12 advisory boards.Desc
