DescClean Power Exchange: CPX is the Center's program that advances the expansion Community Choice Energy (CCE) across California. CCE is a program available to local governments that allows them to buy and generate cleaner electricity for businesses and residents. CCE is one of the most powerful measures a local community can take to significantly and rapidly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The Clean Power Exchange website is a hub of resources, information, and news for stakeholders across California interested in Community Choice. We track communities' progress toward Community Choice implementation. We share resources, news, and we offer a series of webinars designed to accelerate adoption of best practices. There are now 19 CCE programs operating in California, up from 3 in 2014, offering over 6,689,000 million customers more renewable energy choices. (Continued at Schedule O.)Desc

DescBuilding the Movement: The Center's program that educates the public and key stakeholders about the climate crisis and key solutions that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We do this through multiple media through printed media, our website,Face Book and Twitter, our enewsletter, through studies and reports, and also through public meetings and events. Our annual report also outlines the solutions that we are implementing though our programs and is available on our website. Here are examples of reports that we have produced in 2017-18: State of Solar Energy in Sonoma County: Paths to Accelerate Adoption, Survey of Global Activity to Phase Out Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles, and Sonoma County Greenhouse Gas Report for 2016.Desc

Form 990, Part III, Line 2: New ServicesClimate Action Fellowship was piloted.
Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services DescriptionOTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Clean Transportation: The Center for Climate Protection worked on legislation to phase out fossil fuel powered vehicles in California. As part of this effort, we produced a report, "Survey of Global Activity to Phase Out Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles". We found that many countries such as China, Britain, France, and India have already set a date to phase out gas and diesel-powered vehicles. We hope that this report will help build momentum in the United States to pass similar measures. The Center is working locally with Sonoma Clean Power, a Community Choice agency that the Center for Climate Protection helped start, and the Regional Climate Protection Authority on an online electric vehicle knowledge base to answer questions from potential EV buyers and new car owners. The center has also helped promote a Sonoma Clean Power EV incentive program which has helped get 1200 new EVs on the road. As a result, Santa Rosa, the largest city in Sonoma County, increased its fleet of EVs by a greater percentage than any other city in the state. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Solar Sonoma County: Serves the community through our 'Solar Coach' program which provides solar customers with referrals to three pre-qualified solar vendors. We have also been supporting the shift to 'Solar-Plus' technologies -- electric storage systems, fuel switching, electric vehicles, electric heat pump systems, -- through customer education and solar vendor trainings. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Business for Clean Energy: We partner with more than 70 business sponsors to leverage the business community's leadership and foster creative climate solutions. We spread their stories about their green innovations in the media, and convene members quarterly to share successes, best practices, and inspiration. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Building the Movement: The Center's program that educates the public and key stakeholders about the climate crisis and key solutions that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We do this through multiple media through printed media, our website,Face Book and Twitter, our enewsletter, through studies and reports, and also through public meetings and events. Our annual report also outlines the solutions that we are implementing though our programs and is available on our website. Here are examples of reports that we have produced in 2017-18: State of Solar Energy in Sonoma County: Paths to Accelerate Adoption, Survey of Global Activity to Phase Out Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles, and Sonoma County Greenhouse Gas Report for 2016. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Climate Action Fellowship: A pilot program to engage people to take action on climate change over an extended period of time and to build a self replicating movement that will support speed and scale solutions. The Center ran to trail groups of 16 participants through a 6 week training module. The feedback and learning from this pilot are being incorporated into ongoing research which should culminate in a program design that significantly influences public policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Pricing Carbon: At the beginning of the fiscal year we were involved in trying to influence how California allocates the revenue generated through the Cap and Trade program when this legislation was up for re-authorization. The Center favors a policy that returns the majority of this revenue to citizens as a dividend to insure a more equitable outcome for disadvantaged communities in the face of rising energy prices.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process990 was prepared by CCP Deputy Director, a Financial Management Consultant and a CPA and reviewed by the the Finance Committee including the Treasurer. It was approved by the Board of Directors.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of ConflictsEach board member must fill out an annual declaration stating that they had no conflicts or identifying the nature of their interested party.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 15a: Compensation Review & Approval Process - CEO, Top ManagementThe Human Resource Committe of the board directed staff to use the "Fair Pay for Northern California Nonprofits, the 2011 Compensation & Benefits Survey" and do a survey of the compensation levels and position descriptions for 3 similar local nonprofits. Based on this information the Human Resource Committee set salary levels (for all employes including the ED) for a five year period starting in 2012 to bring the organization up to the level of the market average. This was recently augmented by a staff salary survey based on Fair Pay for Northern California Nonprofits of the 2017.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4a - Continuation of Program AccomplishmentsClean Power Exchange: (Continued from Page 3.) Community Choice Energy (CCE) agencies have reduced about 940,000 metric tons of GHGs this past year and saved about $90 million for their customers while creating 4720 new jobs. In June the Center hosted our fourth Business of Local Energy Symposium in that state capital, Sacramento, with 410 participants, all working to accelerate the building of California's clean energy economy. Two key state regulators, David Hochschild, a Commissioner at the California Energy Commission, and Mark Ferron, a Board Member of the California Independent System Operator, who spoke at the event agreed that Community Choice agencies are "the most innovative and exciting development in the United States in the clean energy sector."
Form 990, Part III, Line 4b - Continuation of Program AccomplishmentsECO2school: (Continued from Page 3.) ECO2school introduced a new program this year - the World Changers Career Pathway. World Changers aims to support youth in making climate central to their educational, career, and lifestyle choices. It provided paid internships to nine Youth Advisory Board members, two paid college climate fellows, and three competitive $1,000 scholarships to students to acknowledge additional carbon reduction projects they accomplished.
Form 990, Part III, Line 4c - Continuation of Program AccomplishmentsClimate Solution Development: (Continued from Page 3.) With support from the Adobe Foundation, the Center has been working with two of our Silicon Valley partners to compile resources for distributed energy projects, programs, and best practices. Through presentations and webinars, we will provide resources for accelerating local project development. The goal of this project is to encourage stronger, more differentiated Community Choice agencies, and to assist these five agencies in offering more benefits for the people and businesses in their communities while driving down carbon emissions. The Center has written and is propagating a paper on theory of change about what the climate movement is missing. We are also testing this theory - to create a powerful, exponentially growing fellowship of committed climate activists, and focus these activists on powerful public policy solutions to produce significant greenhouse gas emission reductions commensurate with the speed and scale of the crisis.
