Educational and Public Programming and Prizes $4,613,256	Form 990-PF, Part IX-A	The Foundation offers a wide array of programs to the public to expand the audience for poetry. More than half of the Foundation's 22,000 square foot building is open weekdays and select evenings and weekends to the public, including a poetry library, exhibition space and performance space designed specifically for the spoken word. The library added 900 new items to its collection of over 30,000 books of poetry and about poetry, freely accessible to the public; visitors referenced nearly 4,000 items in the past year. In addition, the library hosted 128 adult poetry workshops, 19 youth writing workshops, 47 children's Poemtime readings, 12 monthly book club discussions, and 55 youth field trips. Poetry Out Loud, a national program of poetry recitation in high schools, completed its 15th year. Working with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Foundation's program encourages high school students to memorize and perform great poems, helping students to master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. More than 270,000 students representing over 2,300 schools participated in 2019, competing for 118 prizes totaling $59,900. An additional $43,100 was awarded to the winners' schools for the purchase of poetry materials. Readers and artists are featured in a robust schedule of free events throughout the year, including poetry readings, staged plays, concerts, exhibition openings, and other performances. In 2019, we hosted 72 free events in Chicago with more than 5,000 attendees. Our annual Chicago Poetry Block Party had over 1000 attendees. The Foundation also supports and partners with other cultural institutions in Chicago in order to broaden its own audience, from poetry festivals across the United States, youth and children's poetry activities, public radio and television poetry programming. In addition, we provide annual prizes and awards to individual poets and artists for excellence in poetry, including the Lilly Prize, expanded Lilly Rosenberg Fellowships, and POETRY annual prizes.
Digital Poetry Programs $2,142,927	Form 990-PF, Part IX-A	Poetryfoundation.org expands poetry's audience beyond the page by offering a wide range of content that engages with the art form, including the largest, free online archive of poetry. The Webby-award-winning website offers articles, poetry collections, six podcasts, over 45,000 poems, and a full digital archive of POETRY magazine free to read. New content is added to the website weekly, including features on new poetry collections, poets blogging on a range of topics, articles for educators, and poetry for children. In 2019 our website greeted 4.1 million average monthly web visitors. Our newsletters had over 104,000 subscribers.
Poetry Magazine $1,417,225 (net of $714,494 of revenue)	Form 990-PF, Part IX-A	Established in 1912, POETRY magazine continues to present the best new poetry written by distinguished poets, and also works to discover and present emerging, new writers with approximately 25% of each issue publishing a poet for the first time in the magazine. The magazine also focuses on current issues relating to poetry in the culture, as well as presenting critical exchanges, debates, reviews, and special features. In 2019 the magazine received and read 153,000 poem submissions, from which it published 415 poems and 25 prose pieces in 11 issues. Circulation this year exceeded 25,000, with subscribers from 223 countries. POETRY was ranked number one in the 2019 Perpetual Folly Literary Magazine Ranking for Poetry.
	Form 990-PF, Part XV, Line 3a	The Foundation paid more than $1.3 million in awards, prizes and grants to more than 270 individuals and organizations. Amounts ranged from $100 to $100,000.
