DescSolar Cookers International (SCI) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit dedicated to improving human and environmental health by supporting the expansion of effective carbon-free solar cooking in world regions of greatest need. SCI leads through advocacy, research, and strengthening the capacity of the global solar cooking movement. Because cooking duties fall mostly to women and girls in many parts of the world, SCI weaves a strong network of global partners to empower vulnerable women in world regions of greatest need. With 3 billion people cooking over open fires, the need for clean cooking solutions like solar cooking is great. SCI is the worldwide hub for international solar cooking advocacy, capacity building, and research. SCI strengthens grassroots solar cooking activities globally, and advocates for clean, sustainable cooking solutions through the United Nations and other international forums. SCI connects over 700 collaborators in over 142 countries to amplify global solar cooking adoption and help people in vulnerable regions as they build resilience in a challenging world.SCIs analysis of solar cooker data estimates that almost 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have been prevented by existing solar cookers around the globe. Preventing 30 million tonnes of CO2 is equivalent to not driving 73 billion miles or not burning 32 billion pounds of coal. Global data analyzed by SCI suggests that since 1990, more than 7.5 billion meals have been prepared by more than 3.9 million solar cookers; using free solar energy, saving forests and habitats, increasing safety for women and girls, lessening indoor air pollution and related health issues, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. SCIs long-term plans focus on scaling up solar cooking to accelerate impacts. ADVOCACYSCI advocates with global leaders to ensure solar cooking is recognized as a critical solution to achieve climate and health goals. SCI also cultivates collaborators to carry forward SCIs agenda to increase knowledge and recognition of solar cooking. SCI implemented the following advocacy activities in fiscal year 2019/2020: Educating government leaders and decision-makers about solar cookings positive influence on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by participation at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July 2019. SCI advocated and showcased solar cookers and solar cooking curriculum with the Public-Private Alliance Foundation (PPAF). Actively advocating for solar cooking at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) in Madrid, Spain in December 2019 by communicating with government leaders that solar cooking is a viable and effective climate change solution for inclusion in their climate change mitigation and adaptation plans. SCI presented at a Side Event and exhibited with the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and participated at Side Events with the Clean Cooking Alliance and the India Pavilion. SCI was interviewed by seven media organizations, including the Business Insider and Torche Du Monde, advocating for solar cooking with readers and listeners in Taiwan, Latin America, Spain, France, and more. SCI conducted four press conferences including guest speakers from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Global Solar Council, Brahma Kumaris, and the National Solar Energy Federation of India. SCI participated during the COP25 Presidency meeting and met top United States Congressional representatives to share the positive impacts of solar cooking on the environment. SCI had the opportunity to expose 25,000 COP participants (1,500 of which were media representatives) to solar cooking information. Advocating for solar cooking at the International Organization for Standardization and the Clean Cooking Forum in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2019.Participating in a poster session highlighting solar cookings impact at the Solar World Congress in Santiago, Chile in November 2019.Having the benefits of solar cooking highlighted in articles in The New Yorker (with over one million readers) and the Washington Post (with approximately 86 million readers), as well as in two articles and a podcast in Physics World.Being recognized as a member of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), allowing SCI to provide solar cooking consultation to organizations in the energy sector. Receiving membership and joining a task force with the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), which has representatives from science, governments, non-government organizations (NGOs), and industry.Catalyzing the inclusion of solar cooking in World Health Organization training manuals and the United Nations Global Marketplace. RESEARCHSCI is committed to supporting improvements in solar cooking policy, practice, and research by building an evidence-base to demonstrate effectiveness. SCI is also committed to promoting the Solar Cooker Performance Evaluation Process (PEP) as a tool for proving the suitability of solar cookers and driving improvement in designs. SCIs PEP measures the standard cooking power of a solar cooker in Watts providing objective data for manufacturing and purchasing decisions. Test results provide customers (i.e.: individuals and United Nations agencies) with an objective, reliable evaluation of different solar cooking technologies. SCI helps build local economies and sector capacity with the PEP. SCI now has PEP testing centers in four locations (Nairobi, Kenya; Lalitpur, Nepal; Nyack, New York, USA; and Sacramento area, California, USA). Simultaneously, SCI is increasing its capacity to gather data and track metrics.SCI conducted the following research efforts in fiscal year 2019/2020: PEP testing 7 solar cookers and sharing the results on the SCI website.Conducting a PEP information webinar for a global audience showcasing the benefits of PEP testing and making the webinar available on the SCI website.Compiling data to update the SCI Global Map of Solar Cookers. This map reflects the number of known solar cookers and their impact around the globe. Analyzing the environmental and health costs of cooking with solid fuels and the potential savings by switching to solar cooking. SCI created the Solar Cooking Economic Impact summaries and conducted an international webinar to disseminate the findings. The estimated savings for each country are dramatic; some countries could save billions of dollars annually. SCI created these to encourage more investment in solar cooking as a solution. STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF THE GLOBAL MOVEMENTSCI builds strong relationships with major decision-makers to support the implementation of high-impact and financially sound strategies to increase solar cooker adoption. SCI also provides solar cooker education through digital and media opportunities while providing a forum for partners to share best practices and exchange ideas. SCI conducted the following capacity-building activities in 2019/2020: Collaborating with Kenyan manufacturer Ecomandate to construct 40 solar box oven cookers and train Kakuma Camp Refugee residents, directly impacting 350 people.Presenting two papers at the ConSolFoods2020 conference in Faro, Portugal.Creating and publishing the John Collentine Solar Cooking Toolkit, an online collection of materials helping multiple audiences and serving multiple purposes.Sharing the critical importance of solar cooking during times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, to SCI supporters and other organizations, including USAID. Maintaining and updating the Solar Cooking Wiki, www.solarcooking.org, the worlds largest online database of solar cooking information with almost 1800 pages of information and translatable into 40 languages.Presenting and demonstrating solar cooking at various events, including the Rotary Club of Manassas; the United Nations Association-Westchester's UN Day program; the University of California at Davis Thermal Symposium; the University of Madrid, Spain; the International Peace Festival; the Don Bosco vocational center in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya; and with the Haitian community in the New York City area.Highlighting solar cooking in influential organizations newsletters such as the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), the Global Solar Council, and REN21.Utilizing digital communications (Facebook, SCI website, blogs, Twitter, etc.) to share updates, resources, tools, successes, and findings from SCI and collaborators.Continuing support of the development and implementation of the solar cooking curriculum with the Universit Notre Dame dHaiti UDERS de Hinche in Haiti.Maintaining the SCI Association with approximately 100 individuals with a high impact on solar cooking. The SCIA empowers Associates with additional resources, publicity, recognition, and support.SCI looks to a future where solar thermal technologies are readily available for people everywheDesc

Part V, Line 4: Intended uses of the endowment fund.To support the future charitable goals of solar cookers international.
Part X : FIN48 FootnoteSCI is exempt from income taxes under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code, and is considered a publicly supported organization. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been included in the accompanying financial statements.SCI has accounted for uncertainty of income taxes as required by the Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes topic of the FASB Accounting Standards Codification. SCI uses a comprehensive model for recognizing, and measuring, presenting and disclosing in the financial statements tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return. A tax position is recognized as a benefit only if it is "more likely than not" that the tax position would be sustained in a tax examination, with a tax examination being presumed to occur. The amount recognized is the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized on examination. For tax positions not meeting the "more likely than not" test, no tax benefit is recorded. The effect of applying this model and the resulting identification of uncertain tax positions, if any, were not considered significant for financial reporting purposes.
