DescREADI Chicago - The rapid employment and development initiative (READI Chicago) is an innovative transitional jobs and cognitive behavioral therapy program. READI Chicago is designed to target those at highest risk of being victims or perpetrators of gun violence, with the goals of decreasing violence involvement among this population, creating an alternative path and viable opportunities for them to change their life trajectory and decrease criminal justice involvement, and helping build a community-level infrastructure that promotes long-term safety and opportunity in Chicago's most impoverished communities. Heartland Alliance is leading and managing a network of community based organizations on Chicago's south and west sides to implement READI Chicago. As Heartland Alliance determined to close its doors, certain program services were transitioned to other organizations and the other services were then closed down and the operations shut down by April 2024.Desc

DescNational Immigrant Justice Center - The Heartland Alliance National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) is dedicated to ensuring human rights protections and access to justice for all immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. NIJC provides direct legal services to and advocates for these populations through policy reform, impact legislation, and public education. With the support of hundreds of pro bono attorneys, NIJC provides legal services to more than 10,000 individuals each year and maintains a success rate of 90 percent in obtaining asylum for those fleeing persecution in their home countries. Since its founding twenty-five years ago, NIJC has been unique in blending individual client advocacy with broad-based systemic change. NIJC was closed down through the parent company of Heartland Alliance due to closing of the corporate operations. NIJC then spun off the operations and mission as its own standalone organization as of April 2024.Desc

DescResearch, Policy, and Innovation - Our initiatives are broad and inclusive because we know that we can't end poverty on our own. We center equity and inclusion in all our work, so that every community we partner with has a voice. We are committed to building and sustaining movements for change. In Chicago and communities across the country, we are collaborating with partners to discover, nurture and share innovative policy and systems change solutions that address the root causes of poverty and inequity. As Heartland Alliance determined to close its doors, certain program services were transitioned to other organizations and the other services were then closed down and the operations shut down by February 2024.Desc

ExplanationUnder both the going concern basis of accounting and the liquidation basis of accounting, the accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the consolidated financial statements. Under this guidance, the Organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the Organization, and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income. The tax benefits recognized in the consolidated financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. Management has determined that there are no uncertain tax positions during the reporting periods covered by these consolidated financial statements.ExplanationTxt

The Plan provides for an orderly sale of the businesses, operations, and real estate, payment of liabilities and other obligations, and an orderly wind down of any remaining operations and dissolution of the Organization.
