| Form 990 | Detention Watch Network received 501c3 recognition from the IRS in 2018, after operating as a fiscally sponsored project for many years. The organization began operating as an independent nonprofit -- with running payroll, administering benefits, and entering vendor contracts -- effective January 1, 2020. Detention Watch Network began preparing for the transition from a fiscally sponsored project to an independent 501c3 organization in 2019, including a conflict of interest policy and opening a bank account, with some limited financial activity occurring at the end of 2019. Accordingly, Detention Watch Network did not make governing documents, conflict of interest policy, or financial statements available to the public in 2019, and will begin doing so in fiscal year 2020. In addition, there were minimal expenses charged to the new 501c3 entity in 2019, with the organization beginning to incur costs and pay for expenses effective January 1, 2020. |
