MissionThe YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles ("YMCA "LA Y "the Y") advances community well-being by addressing root causes and improving equitable access to services across three integrated areas of impact: Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Impact. The Y's 27 physical locations, 170 program sites, and 3 camps stretch across 150 miles of Los Angeles County, from the ocean to the mountains, and each are remarkably unique to reflect the vibrancy of the community it serves. The Y's statewide center serves teens across the entire State of California through the State's largest model legislative program. At the LA Y, we meet people where they are and empower them to thrive-physically, emotionally, and socially. Do Good. Be Well. Lead Change. This simple call to action reflects the Y's commitment to building a healthier, more equitable Los Angeles for all.MissionDesc

DescPROGRAMS FOR SOCIAL IMPACT: The LA Y strengthens social cohesion by empowering residents to advocate, lead, and contribute to solutions in their communities. Through civic engagement, basic needs support, and volunteerism, we build pathways to economic mobility and resilience. The LA Y is a leader in creating positive change in our neighborhoods and responding to issues that affect the quality of life for kids and families. The Y believes in giving back and providing support to our neighbors by developing volunteer leaders through fundraising activities, community partnerships and collaborating with policymakers, community leaders and private and public organizations to build healthier communities throughout Los Angeles. The LA Y is committed to addressing social issues including health inequities within our communities. In 2024, the LA Y continued to implement its equity and inclusion framework to enable the LA Y to be on the forefront of social change in the community. The Y deepened its data-driven approach, conducting internal equity assessments and staff feedback loops to inform continuous quality improvement and advance systems-level change. Recognizing the ongoing work of equity, the LA Y continues to co-design programs with local partners and residents to ensure culturally relevant, community-led solutions. Through our integrated CCWB model, we are building a future where all Angelenos-regardless of background-have the opportunity to belong, contribute, and thrive. This year, the LA Y: * Conducted in-language outreach and provided services and assistance accessing basic needs, essential items, wraparound supports, childcare, eligibility and information for tax, rent relief, and child tax credit, and more. * Distributed over 3.9 million pounds of fresh produce and food for individuals, families and seniors in need. * Assisted 330 men and women with US citizenship applications and educated over 3,300 neighbors through interpretation services, ESL classes, citizenship classes, immigration referrals, and fee waivers. * Led county-wide public health outreach and events at the Y's center facilities to provide the community safe and easy access to essential health services such as vaccinations for COVID, flu and monkey pox to over 500 individuals and health education and awareness to over 10,000 individuals, all to keep the community healthy and safe. * Engaged approximately 3,300 teens across California in civic education, public speaking, and systems thinking through the State's largest youth-led civic engagement program, YMCA Youth & Government. * Involved over 15,500 volunteers in Governance and Program and Services Development where their determination and generosity delivered vital support and services to positively impact the lives in the community. * Secured donations from over 8,900 donors which sustained the LA Y's efforts in being resilient to take swift and creative action to provide emergency services to our neighbors and communities.Desc

Schedule D, Part IV, Line 2b Explanation of escrow agreementTHE ASSOCIATION SERVES AS THE CUSTODIAN FOR FUNDS HELD INDEPENDENTLY OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR CLUBS, YOUTH SPORTS TEAMS AND SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS, WHEN THESE OUTSIDE GROUPS DO NOT HOLD BANK ACCOUNTS.
Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 Intended uses of endowment fundsTHE ASSOCIATION'S ENDOWMENT FUNDS INCLUDE THOSE ASSETS OF DONOR-RESTRICTED FUNDS THAT THE ORGANIZATION MUST HOLD IN PERPETUITY OR FOR A DONOR-SPECIFIED PERIOD AND PURPOSE, AS WELL AS UNRESTRICTED FUNDS FUNCTIONING AS ENDOWMENT. THE ASSOCIATION HAS ADOPTED INVESTMENT AND SPENDING POLICIES FOR ASSETS THAT ATTEMPT TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT INCOME TO SUSTAIN FUNDING TO PROGRAMS SUPPORTED BY ENDOWMENT WHILE SEEKING TO MAINTAIN THE PURCHASING POWER OF THE ENDOWMENT. THE ASSOCIATION HAS A POLICY OF APPROPRIATING FOR DISTRIBUTION EACH YEAR A PERCENTAGE OF THE THREE YEAR TRAILING AVERAGE OF THE FAIR VALUE OF THE ENDOWMENT AS OF JUNE 30 OF THE PRIOR YEAR. THE DISTRIBUTION RATE FOR THE PERIOD ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2024 WAS 4.5%. ADDITIONAL TERM ENDOWMENT DISTRIBUTIONS MAY BE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH DONOR RESTRICTIONS. ADDITIONAL DISTRIBUTIONS OF UNRESTRICTED FUNDS FUNCTIONING AS ENDOWMENT MAY BE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASSOCIATION NEEDS.
Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 FIN 48 (ASC 740) footnoteThe Association was organized pursuant to the General Nonprofit Corporation Law of the State of California. The Association has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Association has also been recognized by the California Franchise Tax Board as exempt from California franchise taxes and certain general county real and personal property taxes under Section 23701d of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. However, the Association is subject to income taxes on any net income that is derived from a trade or business, regularly carried on, and not in furtherance of the purposes for which it was granted exemption. No income tax provision has been recorded as the net income, if any, from any unrelated trade or business, in the opinion of management, is not material to the financial statements taken as a whole. If applicable, the Association would recognize interest and penalties associated with tax matters as operating expenses and would include accrued interest and penalties with accrued expenses in the statements of financial position. Tax positions taken related to the Association's tax-exempt status, unrelated business activities taxable income, and deductibility of expenses, and other miscellaneous tax positions have been reviewed, and management is of the opinion that material positions taken by the Association would, more likely than not, be sustained by examination. Form 990, Part III, Line 4 EXEMPT PURPOSEDuring 2024, the LA Y continued to build stronger communities for all by creating solutions for the community's needs. The LA Y addresses key social determinants of health-including access to nutritious food, mental health resources, civic engagement, academic and career support, and preventative health care-through a place-based model designed to meet the unique needs of each community we serve. Informed by our Center for Community Well-Being (CCWB) framework, the LA Y deploys a People-Focused, Place-Based, Community-Centered approach to deliver high-impact services across a continuum of care. Our goal is to ensure every person in Los Angeles has a positive YMCA experience that supports long-term well-being and economic stability. In 2024, here's how the LA Y helped those in need in its community: * Distributed over 3.9 million pounds of fresh produce and food for neighbors experiencing food insecurity and distributed 500,000 meals * Reached over 52,000 youth with programs designed to support academic success, emotional resilience, and equitable access to sports, wellness, and enrichment; * Supported 23,000 older adults with holistic healthy living programs including social clubs, movement classes, nutrition, wellness checks, and mental health workshops to reduce isolation and promote dignity in aging; * Served 15,000 teens and young adults in programs, volunteer and civic engagement, and leadership opportunities; * Served over 11,000 children through low- or no-cost child care, day camp, and preschool to support families; * Advanced immigrant integration by supporting 330 neighbors with U.S. citizenship applications and serving more than 3,300 through multilingual outreach, ESL, legal referrals, and navigation services; * Mobilized 15,500 volunteers across intergenerational programs, public health initiatives, community wellness events, and disaster recovery efforts; * Provided over $3 million in direct assistance to community members for Y programming, services and resources; and * Integrated trauma-informed practices and wraparound support throughout all programming, prioritizing underserved communities and system-impacted individuals. The YMCA's Community Impact Fund ensures the sustainability of our equity-driven services and our capacity to respond to urgent and emerging community needs-including wildfire relief, youth mental health, and access to essential care. The campaign has ensured the Y would remain a bedrock of community well-being, providing its youth, families, teens, seniors and so many more with services and support. Each Y center continues to expand its specific offerings within the Y's historic programmatic work in the areas of Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Impact. The Y's programs and services are open to everyone and financial aid is available to families and individuals in need to enable equitable access to programs and memberships. The LA Y's Financial Assistance program is funded by donors and fundraising efforts through the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Board of Directors and the individual Board of Managers of all 28 LA Y centers.
