Niziak Jr ("Marcus'), who died of a brain tumor in 1990, shortly after his 5th birthday. Its main purpose was to support pediatric brain tumor research being conducted at various hospitals.Recently, the Foundation has focused on supporting such research being conducted at the Massachusetts General Hospital ("MGH"), where Marcus was originally treated. Several years ago, within its operations, the Foundation also created the Marcus Fund for Families, to help defray the cost to families being treated at MGH for brain tumors and other neurological diseases.It is the intent of the Foundation to provide annual grants to MGH for such purposes. The Foundation solicits funds from the general public via various fundraising efforts throughout the year, and its public website appeals and personal appeals from those involved with the Foundation and MGH. Much of the Foundation's donations are "anonymous" with no specific donor identified. In addition, during the period of COVID, fewer events were performed due to mandatory quarantines. The Foundation's Board of Directors has also made a concerted effort to expand its base of support via various means to increase their contact base, in order to sustain the requisite support from the general public.
