An outside attorney reviews and negotiates. Other officers and key employees' salary are determined using negotiations, historical data, experience in the field and evaluations as factors. The financial statements are available by request. Huston-Tillotson University (HT) respectfully requests abatement of any potential penalties and interest for late filing due to reasonable cause. HT engaged a new accounting firm to prepare the audit and tax return for the year ended June 30, 2010 and relied on the new firm to file an extension for the Form 990. Unfortunately, the new accounting firm mistakenly used a calendar year end for extension purposes and the 2009 extension was not timely filed. We regret the error and have taken measures to ensure such oversight will not happen again. The error was not intentional disregard for IRS filing deadlines and every effort has been made to file the return as soon as possible after realizing the mistake.
