The programs emphasize building self-esteem through the development of spirit, mind, and body. Judeo-Christian values are modeled by staff, and children participate in a variety of activities, including aquatics, sports, and crafts. Activities are designed to teach caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, self-confidence, and appreciation of nature and God's bounty. This year approximately 4,080 children participated in the after school programs with financial assistance of $137,084 provided for 272 participants. This year 9,203 children participated in YMCA full and half day summer camps with financial assistance of $265,075 provided to 582 participants. In a collaborative effort with A Small Miracle, Inc. and other organizations, the Association ran Camp Grace, a special day camp that served 57 children with developmental disorders. This year approximately 3,446 children participated in the year-round track programs with 344 of these participants receiving financial assistance totaling $204,392. 14088112 20658012 ADULT PROGRAMS: The YMCA of the Triangle Area is dedicated to building healthy spirit, mind, and body of individuals and families. Membership offers participants opportunities to do this through recreational and educational activities, which promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Our wellness-based fitness programs help people set goals for their own personal fitness and promote health and improved self-esteem as members strive to achieve their goals. Program elements include nutrition, stress management, and health education. Activities include aerobics, aqua fitness, strength training, body shaping, and various sports. To further its mission, the Association has entered into an alliance with WakeMed. WakeMed provides physical and occupational rehabilitation, health screenings and educational classes at five YMCA branches. The Association has 72,369 members including 3,464 individuals who receive financial assistance totaling $863,143 to enable them to be members of the Association. Over 5,300 program volunteers donated their time to further the Association's mission. 9487487 14500 11357028 RESIDENT CAMP: Camps Sea Gull and Seafarer provide children ages 7 to 16 opportunities to develop specialized land and sea skills, independence, decision-making skills, and life-long friendships through a resident camping experience with children from many geographic areas, various economic means, and multiple religious affiliations. Character development is a principal objective of the programs, which include teaching the values of courage, consideration, cooperation, and integrity. Through daily devotions, Sunday services, and staff example, campers learn the importance of strong values based in Judeo-Christian principles. YMCA Camp Kanata serves children ages 6 to 15 through an organized overnight group camping experience in cabins. Emphasis is placed on development of friendships, social skills, group living skills, individual accomplishment and skill development during the weeklong camp sessions. This year 5,651 children attended various resident camp programs with financial assistance of $652,833 provided to 390 campers. YOUTH, TEEN AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS: At the YMCA of the Triangle we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. This year there were over 9,000 registrations in various youth sports programs. Teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, and respect for others are primary goals of the programs. Improved physical fitness and the development of individual skills are other significant goals. Over 700 participated on swim teams this year. Through competitive swimming, participants learn swimming skills, develop self-confidence, improve physical fitness, and learn acceptance of others, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The YMCA Guide and Princess programs, which 13,000 participated in this year, are unique family programs designed to foster closer relationships between fathers and their children. Family camps are also held to strenghthen family connections. The Association takes a leading role in the Youth & Government program in North Carolina and over 300 participants from the local service area joined their counterparts from across the state in the annual high school Youth Legislature and Middle School United Nations programs. The YMCA of the Triangle Area conducts subsidized community outreach programs, which include special camps (1,241 participants), tutorial programs (1,008 participants), and the "Y-Life" program where children from low-cost housing communities are provided transportation to the YMCA for fun and character-building activities (over 800 participants). This estimated liability is known as an uncertain tax position.
