Children's Education Programs - Training future eaters & stewards of the landSchool-aged children are a critical audience for Stone Barns because engaging them directly with tasty and nutritious food is the first step in establishing a pattern of improved eating as adults, and creating the next generation of thoughtful food consumers. Education programs at Stone Barns include school field trips, farm day camp, youth corps and after-school. Since 2004, Stone Barns Center's unique, hands-on education programs have reached more than 40,000 children.

Raising Public Awareness - Educating our VisitorsStone Barns Center educates more than 100,000 visitors every year. The Center offers a variety of public programs about food and agriculture including classes, lectures and workshops taught by experts. Topics range from growing your own food to cooking with in-season ingredients to planting pollinator-friendly landscapes to backyard beekeeping to stewarding ecological health and more. Stone Barns develops communications tools to extend the reach of our message to people across the country who are hungry for tools, tips and ideas to make smarter food choices. The goal of all of our public outreach is to connect people to what they eat and awaken them to the health and environmental consequences of their food choices.

Growing Farmers Initiative - Educating the Next Generation of FarmersFor decades, economic forces have discouraged farming as a viable occupation, creating a shortage of farmers. The Center's Growing Farmers Initiative will increase the numbers of small and mid-size farmers. The Center equips young farmers with the knowledge and hands-on experience to grow better-tasting, healthier food, and become responsible stewards of the land. Programs seek to remove the barriers that stand in the way of their success, whether those be access to land, prohibitive capital costs, or marketing and distribution challenges. Core elements of the program include intern and apprenticeships each year, technical trainings, the country's premier young farmer conferences, academic forums and courses.

<FactsAndCircumstancesTest>Part II, Line 17a--How we maintain the facilities for public access and enjoymentStone Barns Center is open to the public year-round, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Center provides opportunities for visitors to learn about resilient agriculture and its connection to health and the environment. General public: Public programs include classes, lectures, and farming and cooking experiences. Students and teachers: Education programs include school field trips, farm camps and after-school groups. All programs allow students to participate in key aspects of the farm, from animal care to vegetable gardening, and all school programs are tied to state learning standards. Young farmers: Stone Barns offers training, workshops and resources for people committed to developing a career in farming. The initiative equips beginning farmers with the knowledge and hands-on experience to grow better-tasting, healthier food and become responsible stewards of the land. How we operate our educational and development programs to reach a broad range of members.Stone Barns provides educational experiences to thousands of community members each year. We host more than 100,000 visitors annually and have worked with more than 40,000 school children during our eight years of operation. We rely on social media and the web, work with partners, and develop marketing campaigns to reach a regional and national audience. A series of targeted public awareness efforts throughout the year, on topics such as gardening and nutrition, are accompanied by rich, interactive Web content that helps individuals learn about good food choices and apply them in their everyday lives. We measure success by tracking the increase in the number of people we reach through:"Visitors to Stone Barns Center"Program registrations"Memberships "Web traffic"Media impressions Fundraising activities undertaken to support our workStone Barns continually pursues a range of strategies to broaden its donor base. We offer membership promotions, attend numerous community events to share information about our educational work and establish partnerships to engage new supporters. Stone Barns staff members meet regularly with interested individuals and foundation officers to discuss philanthropic support of our work as well. Board of directors Stone Barns has a 10-member Board of Directors. The Board includes agriculture, education, non-profit and business experts, who are dedicated to driving change in the food system.</FactsAndCircumstancesTest>
