One hundred and eighty seven families receive high quality, licensed child care services through the Early Childhood Care and Education and School Age Programs - Licensed care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers; after-school care for children ages 5yrs-12yrs.The early childhood programs are NAEYC accredited. The Club is proud to serve as the Boston Public Schools only K1 Pilot within a Community Based Program. We are also a "UPK" site. The UPK grant extends the preschool program's ability to serve children in a high quality setting, enhanced by teaching staff that are committed to excellence in early childhood education. Our capacity to serve children from two months old to eighteen years of age has allowed us to create meaningful, trusting relationships with the families we serve. Hundreds of the children who come to the program are the children of our alumni; former members who want their children to enjoy the love, warmth, growth and nurturing that they experienced here as a child. 1588326 34163 Recreation and Education - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester's recreation and education programs serve four thousand children between the ages of six and eighteen inside our three Clubhouses. Many of our members and their families confront a myriad of challenges and face disadvantages presented by the urban neighborhoods immediately surrounding our buildings. The Club offers our children safe places to learn and grow, to experience important life lessons and connect with peers and adults who care about them. Each of our dedicated youth development workers strive to give our members opportunity and hope, along with chances to try something new. We do this by instilling a love of learning, teaching healthy lifestyles and infusing character building activities into all of our programs. As we enter into the final year of the Club's strategic plan, Strategies for Excellence, our board, volunteers and staff remain focused on program excellence. In May 2009 we celebrated the opening of our new Dorchester Music Clubhouse. This dedicated program space allows us to double our program capacity. In an effort to expose children to experiences they would not otherwise have, over one hundred members spent five days in Walt Disney World, one hundred and fifty children went to summer camp in Maine and countless others visited local attractions such as a Boston Red Sox game, the Harvard Museum of Natural History and sports camp. Academically, the Education Center is committed to helping our members progress from one grade to the next on time. Over six hundred children visit our education center on a regular basis. Additionally, over one thousand children express their creativity in our Arts Studio. The Club's gym and aquatics center serve one thousand two hundred members and we are proud to introduce our latest initiative Project B.I.N.D., (Boston Inclusion Network for Disabilities). Thanks to our partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank, we serve one hundred and fifty hot nutritious meals five nights a week. The great news is that we know our program works.
