Nutrition Programs: Conduct the fully integrated RFS Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Education(TM) program, which delivers up to 20 hours of hands-on learning in the kitchen and garden to 3050 K-5 students at five Houston ISD Elementary schools over the course of the fall & spring term. Integrated programs include Chefs-in-Schools (TM): Recruitment, management and support of professional chefs in the Houston area to volunteer their time to teach monthly cooking classes to fourth graders throughout the school year, then provide staffing and teaching assistance to implement programming, food, curriculum materials and supplies. Curriculum focuses on the understanding of the food pyramid and how to prepare healthy meals and snacks. (1950 participating students); Recipe Gardens: Build, expand & maintain teaching gardens in each of five pilot schools and operate regular garden instruction for grades K-5 students to exemplify the RFS Seed-to-Plate Nutrition Euducation (TM) curriculum, including support and take-home materials, seeds & equipment.
