RMHC-Austin began providing temporary lodging and support services to hospitalized children and their families in February 1985 in Austin's first Ronald McDonald House which was an eight bedroom facility located at 15th and Red River. Today, the Ronald McDonald House is currently located on the campus of the Dell Children's Medical Center. This modern, certified "green" Ronald McDonald House is the first Ronald McDonald House built to LEED Platinum standards in the world. It is a highly-efficient, high-performing state of the art thirty guest room lodging facility serving families from forty-six Central Texas counties. Annually, the Ronald McDonald House serves over 700 families of seriously ill or injured children who are receiving care in an Austin area hospital. Additionally, the Ronald McDonald House provides meals and daily respite care to over 100 families annually through our Day Pass program. A new program, the Ronald McDonald Family Room, opened in May of 2009 in the new Women's Center St. David's North Austin Medical Center. This program is focused on supporting and providing a space for respite for parents of medically fragile newborns and is located inside the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit.
