In the 2010 festival season, 38 performances of five operas were performed: (Puccini) Madame Butterfly, (Mozart) The Magic Flute, (Offenbach) The Tales of Hoffman, (Spratlan) Life is a Dream, World Premiere, and (Britton) Albert Herring. In addition, two performances of Apprentice Scenes showcased members of the Company's Apprentice Program for Singers and Technicians. The total audience was 79,065. The Opera's famed Apprentice Program for Singers, one of the nation's most distinguished training programs, allows 35 aspiring young singers, chosen from some 1,500 applicants, to develop their skills by working with principal artists, music teachers, and coaches. The Apprentice Program for Technicians provides experience and training for some 75 young people in the art of stagecraft. 772691 The Santa Fe Opera's education and community outreach programs offer a wide selection to both students and adults. In 2010, 49,843 individuals were served; 29,704 adults and 20,139 youths. The list of programs is as follows:PUEBLO OPERA PROGRAM brings students, elders, and chaperones to Youth Night at the Opera, a final dress rehearsal for an opera in the current season. Begun in 1973, 19 pueblos and 3 reservations attend these fully staged productions.YOUTH NIGHTS, there were four in 2010. Tickets to a final full dress Rehearsal are offered to families at greatly reduced prices.STUDENT PRODUCED OPERA: Artists-in-residence provide elementary and middle school children as well as some with special needs, opportunities to write, produce, and perform their own operas in both in-school and after-school programs.SPRING OPERA TOUR, featuring former members of the Opera's Apprentice Program for Singers, travels to cities throughout New Mexico and western Texas presenting both in-school and family programs.BACKSTAGE TOURS in the Opera's theater are offered during the week throughout the summer festival season.COMMUNITY CONCERTS present musical programs featuring Apprentice Singers during the summer and Christmas holiday season in different venues. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Members of the board of directors of the Santa Fe Opera are asked each year to sign conflict of interest disclosure statements and to submit these signed statements to the Secretary of the Board of Directors. By signing the annual disclosure statements, each director undertakes to notify the President of the Opera of any material changes that might result in a conflict of interest. The President reviews the signed disclosure statements for conflicts and, with the assistance of committee chairs, monitors compliance with the policy at meetings of the board and committees considering transactions or arrangements that might give rise to a conflict of interest. The signed conflict of interest disclosure statements are maintained at the offices of the Santa Fe Opera. Compliance with this policy is monitored by the Audit Committee. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The compensation committee of the Board of Directors, composed of the President, Chairman, Treasurer, and two additional board members appointed by the President, all of whom are unrelated to the General Director, reviews and approves compensation and other terms of employment for the General Director. In considering appropriate compensation for this position, the Compensation Committee reviews salary data for comparable positions at similar opera companies. The Compensation Committee also conducts annual reviews of the performance of the General Director. Minutes of the Compensation Committee's meetings are recorded and maintained at the offices of the Santa Fe opera. Compensation for the Director of Accounting and Finance is determined by the General Director. The General Director takes job performance and salary data for comparable positions at other opera companies into account when setting the annual salary for the Director of Accounting and Finance.
