Through On Track's innovative 3-year fitness initiative, the following results have been achieved: Kennedy has gone from virtually 0 minutes per student of consistent Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) to 96% of their students achieving 150+ minutes per week of MVPA. This has led to Kennedy being recognized as a Governor's Challenge Front Runner for 2 consecutive years (and as a finalist in 2010). As a testament to On Track's success, the teachers and students are recognizing the link between physical fitness and academic success. Before the 2010 State standardized testing, many of Kennedy's students and teachers walked laps around the field and did jumping jacks to get their brains jump-started. Additionally, students are sharing their excitement of now having a place to play and workout. 243553 0 0 America On Track is implementing a Tobacco Prevention Project (an innovative, comprehensive, community-based program that is currently being implemented throughout Orange County) in the North Region of Orange County, specifically in the cities of Anaheim, La Habra, Brea, La Palma, and Yorba Linda. Our goal is to reduce youth access to tobacco and to educate community members on the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke. To date, On Track has lowered youth access to tobacco by 97%, as measured by pre and post youth attempted purchase surveys at 287 tobacco retailers in the cities of Anaheim and La Habra. 148357 0 0 Communities Empowering Youth: In 2007, On Track (as the lead agency) received a 3-year federal grant to build the capacity of the lead organization, its faith-based and community partners, and the resulting collaboration to promote positive youth development and to improve outcomes for youth at risk of gang involvement, youth violence, child abuse, and neglect (CEY's priority social service areas that define the program's targeted populations of at-risk youth). The goal is to strengthen a broad-based community collaboration that will better address the myriad issues that disadvantaged youth face. Thanks to the CEY project and funds, the capacity and performance of all three partners, including the lead agency, have continued to be enhanced through infrastructure improvements. 132721 0 0 Mentoring Children of Prisoners: In August 2004, On Track received a federal Mentoring Children of Prisoners grant to match highly-trained and screened adult mentors with children, ages 4-18, who have a parent who is incarcerated in a State or Federal prison, while also providing support for the entire family. Our On Track Mentoring Children of Prisoners program itself has initiated over 700 matches to date, which equates to working with well over 3,000 participants since we provide resources for the families (parents, guardians, siblings). 75757 0 0 Mentoring Program: In 2008, On Track received a multi-year federal Mentoring Programs grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools to expand our Kids On Track...through Mentoring & Fitness program, which matches highly trained and supervised teen mentors with disadvantaged 3rd through 5th grade students, to Roosevelt Elementary school in Santa Ana.
