The Museum holds the largest human skeletal collection in the world, which is particularly valuable to medical device companies who will have access in the future. During fiscal year 2010, the Museum's curators pursued research and fieldwork in Ethiopia and Mongolia, as well as local sites. The Museum's conservation efforts include discovery and documentation of rare plant species and acquisition of land containing rare habitats. During 2010, the museum protected more than 1,100 acres of land through conservation efforts. 1972638 474710 Education- The Museum offers unique learning opportunities including hands-on workshops, gallery, health, planetarium, live animal programs and self-conducted exhibits, outreach and distance learning programs. The Museum offered on-site school programs for 44,277 students and delivered outreach programs to 19,091 students during fiscal year 2010. Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils New Discoveries, from the American Museum of Natural History, helped draw over 100,000 visitors to the Museum in its 3 month run. Visitors were also treated to family-friendly, hands-on traveling exhibits including Every Body Eats, Amazing Feats of Aging, and Wild Music. Exhibitions staff collaborated with the internationally recognized painter Seth Chwast to mount an exhibition of painting, sculpture, historical objects and interactive displays in recognition of Charles Darwin's 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of the publication of Origin of Species.
