<Explanation>Schedule I, Part I, Line 2: The purpose of the grant is to assist the Town of Greenwich with their goal of relocating the animal control facility from the Museum grounds, referred to as the Bruce Park Land. The Organization has been in constant contact with the Town and Animal Control Facility regarding their progress with the relocation of the animal control facility. The Town has selected a site and is currently in the process of construction of the new animal control facility required to house the animals. Once completed the Town will move the animal control operations into the new facility and demolish the current structure and return it to its status as Parkland. This process should be completed during the Town's 2010-2011 fiscal year. We have been informed that the town budget for 2010-2011 includes funding to demolish the building and restore the site.</Explanation>

<Explanation>The Museum was built originally as a private home in 1853 and was bequeathed to the Town of Greenwich, CT in 1908 by textile merchant Robert Moffat Bruce, who stipulated its use as a museum. The first exhibition at the Bruce Museum took place in 1912 and featured works by local artists known as the Greenwich Society of Artists, several of whom were members of the Cos Cob Art Colony. The Cos Cob School of American painting is now well established as an important part of the history of American art and it forms the nucleus of the Museum's holdings of paintings, watercolors, drawings, and notebooks by artists such as Leonard and Mina Ochtman, George Wharton Edwards, and Hobart Jacobs. Paralleling an interest in Connecticut painters and their works, early directors of the Bruce Museum pursued the development of the natural sciences, building particular strengths in the mineral and avian collections. The Bruce Museum was expanded in 1993 and includes nearly 8,000 square feet of exhibition space, comprised of one main gallery, three smaller galleries, and a lecture hall. The Museum attracts approximately 80,000 visitors annually and operates under accreditation by the American Association of Museums. The Bruce Museum mounts 12-14 changing exhibitions each year and features a permanent exhibition, "Changes in Our Land," that presents the natural and cultural history of the Long Island Sound, including an object-based exploration of Native American life before and after European colonization. The Museum's extensive educational programs are exhibition-based and promote visual literacy, critical thinking, and written and oral expression. Programs feature links to curriculum frameworks in New York and Connecticut, and free teacher previews introduce area teachers to each major exhibition. The Museum's Pre-K - 12 education programs reach over 13,000 students each year, including 6,000-7,000 who visit the Museum with their classes and a roughly equal number who are visited by the Brucemobile, which brings object-based lessons to classrooms. Students served attend all Greenwich public and independent schools, as well as schools within a 30-mile radius (approximately 75% of students served live outside of Greenwich). The award-winning Neighborhood Collaborative brings approximately 700 students each year from 25 Head Start, extended-day, and neighborhood center programs for a series of tours and inquiry-based classes, free of charge. The Museum also offers full- or partially-subsidized programs to area schools that indicate financial need. Public programs for adults include lectures, film series, docent-led tours, visits to senior centers by the Brucemobile, and A Lifetime of Looking, a multi-sensory program for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia that utilizes objects, artists' materials and reproduction images to evoke participants' verbal responses based on their lifetimes of memories and personal stories. Other public programs include nine Family Days held throughout the year, featuring activities, performances, and special programs for families, including an annual celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. The Museum also sponsors internship programs for high school students and recent college graduates who work in various museum departments. Highlights of the Bruce Museum's exhibitions during FY 2010 included the innovative exhibition, Alchemy: Magic, Myth or Science? (9/26/09-1/3/10). The exhibition explored the history and significance of alchemy through artifacts, natural history specimens, minerals, paintings, prints, and documents. Also on view in the fall season was Alexander Calder: Printmaker (10/31/09-1/31/10), which featured a selection of 28 of Calder's fine art prints along with several watercolor paintings and sculptures. The major winter show, Exotic Encounters: Art, Travel, and Modernity in the Collection of the Bruce Museum (1/23/10-4/25/10), invited visitors to learn about the influence that travel has had on artistic imaginations and the desire to collect. The exhibition Lincoln, Life-Size (2/13/10-6/6/10) featured life-size enlargements of Lincoln's portraits and period photographs, drawn from the Meserve-Kunhardt Collection. Lincoln, Life-Size was critically praised for its unprecedented documentation of Lincoln's presidency and the Civil War's harrowing human toll. The show The Dressmaker's Art: Highlights from the Bruce Museum's Costume Collection (5/15/10-9/5/10) presented 24 dresses from 1820 - 1920 that cast new light on the artistry of dressmakers and the evolving roles of women in society. A major science exhibition, Evolution of the Natural World: Highlights of the Bruce Museum Collection (6/19/10-10/17/10), featured mineral, fossil, and animal specimens and highlighted the development of novelty and complexity in the evolution of the planet. Another of the Museum's science shows, Eat or be Eaten: Animal Survival Strategies (11/21/09-11/28/10), highlighted the adaptations of predators and prey in the natural world, drawing on the specimens of insects, shells, fish, reptiles, mammals, and birds from the Bruce Museum's collection. Twenty-three museum-produced lectures were given during FY2010 by art historians, historians, and scientists. The fall season of the Hascoe Lecture Series featured Northern Baroque art and the spring season focused on the influence of travel on artistic imaginations and tastes. The science lecture series focused on volcanoes and featured three nationally recognized scientists. The Bruce Museum is a founding member of the Fairfield/Westchester Museum Alliance, which offers free admission and store discounts to members of the seven participating institutions. The Museum launched a new Youth Committee in the fall of 2009 which created and introduced the youth art exhibition, iCreate Teen Art! (5/5/10-5/23/10), and organized a fundraising initiative for Writing the Earth: 2,000 Years of Geography and Mapping (1/30/10-5/2/10). During FY 2010, the Museum engaged 340 active volunteers who collectively donated 13,384 hours of service and awarded 27 Bronze Presidential Service Awards to adults and four Gold Presidential Service Awards to students.</Explanation>
