Part I, Line 7 Bonuses are given for exceptional performance. Sometimes they are set out at the beginning of the year in a reconfirmation letter which describes the criteria for achieving the bonus as well as the potential amount. They may also be given during the year or at annual performance review time. In either situation, consideration is given to budget limitations, the person's position, title and compensation, historical trends and market best practices. Prior to award and payment, the President, Dean and the Vice President for Finance and Administration must approve the bonus as well as the human resources department which checks for adherence to pre-established goals and consistency. The Committee reviews comparison data in setting the salaries. The President and Dean has a contract which sets an initial salary and states that the salary may be adjusted annually at the discretion of the Board. Salaries for all employees are determined by market comparability studies done by the Director of Human Resources using the service of a third party and multiple commercial surveys. The annual increase for the President and Dean, as well as all other employees is annually reviewed by the Budget and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees who recommend the budget in total to the Full Board of Trustees for approval.
