In FY '10, the League received 24,442 lost and surrendered pets at its two open-admission shelters, where all pets are accepted, including 3720 received from nearly 50 other shelters. It nurtured 2,901 young and sick pets in its foster program and helped 918 unsocialized &/or timid shelter dogs. It adopted out 14,845 pets at its shelters and through its mobile adoption unit, reunited 2,505 lost pets with owners and placed another 720 with breed rescue groups. Of the pets adopted, 7,199 had special health &/or behavioral needs. The League provided a free behavioral helpline, and made behavior tips available at www.ddfl.org. 1928877 0 302669 Veterinary Services: Provide necessary medical care to shelter animals; examine, evaluate and vaccinate animals before being placed up for adoption; spay or neuter unaltered cats and dogs; perform other necessary surgeries; provide free treatment to adopted animals for two weeks post-adoption. In FY 2010, the League's surgeons performed 7,647 spays and neuters on adoptable animals at its two shelters. Additionally, employee and volunteer veterinarians performed 6,079 highly subsidized spays and neuters on the League's two mobile spay/neuter units serving the general public in under-served areas. Its Health Care team cared for 2,444 animals brought in for follow-up treatment post-adoption. It hospitalized 330 of these animals for a total of 1,519 days. 920917 3000 47956 Community and Educational Services: Teach lessons of compassion and respect toward all living creatures; provide educational and volunteer services to the community; act as an advocate for animals. In FY '10, the League brought programs to 13,352 children through 632 presentations, held 11 camps for children and pre-teens, and it taught continuing education workshops for teachers. Its 1,853 volunteers provided 185,486 hours of service. Outreach included efforts to improve society's view and value of companion animals. The League's advocacy efforts helped secure reathorization of the Colorado Pet Overpopulation Fund for the next 10 years. 790108 500000 0 Investigative Services: Investigate reports of animal abuse, neglect or cruelty; educate the public regarding animal cruelty. In FY '10 the League's Peace Officers, who have been commisioned by the Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection investigated 1,447 cases of cruelty, abandonment or neglect in the eight-county metro area. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11 The 990 is prepared by an independent audit firm and reviewed by the League's Vice President of Finance, its Accounting Manager and its Audit Committee. Following the Committee's approval, it is posted on the Board of Directors' website for their review before approval at the subsequent Board Meeting. The 990 is filed with the IRS subsequent to the Board's approval. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The Board of Directors, officers and management disclose any potential conflicts of interest in accordance with the League's policy at least annually. Conflicts are reviewed by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors (where the person with the conflict is recused from deliberations, if applicable) &/or legal counsel, if necessary. The Executive Committee or Board of Directors takes appropriate action if a conflict is not disclosed in accordance with the policy. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 Annually, the Executive Committee receives an analysis of the President's total compensation, which includes a comparison of the package to the marketplace. The Executive Committee documents its deliberations by completing a rebuttable presumption checklist and presents its recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval. The other officer's compensation package is determined by the President in accordance with market-based salary scales which are approved annually by the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. The President documents his decision via email to the Human Resources Manager. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The League provides its annual report, which includes summarized financial information, to donors, board members and other interested parties by mail, in person and online at www.ddfl.org. The League does not have a standard procedure in place for providing its conflict of interest policy to the general public. Per discussion with Grizzard, 20% of the package costs relate to management and strategy fees.
