Regular columns include business operations, finance, human resources, information technology, legal issues, management, marketing, revenue generation, coding and reimbursement, legislative and regulatory update, technician management, ambulatory surgical centers, optical shops and ophthalmic practices. The annual symposium and other meetings throughout the year promote the fields of cataract and refractive surgery and other ophthalmology related topics. The standard requires that an uncertain income tax position must be more likely than not (greater than 50% likelihood of receiving a benefit) before it is recognized in the financial statements. Furthermore, the standard requires that the amount recognized be the same as that which would be determined as a result of a review by tax authorities having all relevant information. During the year ended August 31, 2010 management did not identify any significant uncertain income tax positions. At a minimum, the tax years beginning in 2006 through 2009 are open for examination by tax authorities.
