The collection was donated and recorded based on an appraisal of $1,210,225 as of the date of the gift in 2007. The collection consists of 1,550 volumes of rare and out of print books and 19 video cassettes in the discipline of photography. The collection is maintained for educational purposes and is to be maintained in perpetuity. As such, it is recorded in permanently restricted net assets. Subsequent additions acquired by purchase will be stated at cost; additions acquired by gift will be stated at the estimated fair value at the date of donation. Because the Institute's art collection consists of rare works of art, no provision for depreciation is made thereon.
