RTI Action Network: The RTI Action Network supports frontline educators in implementing a Response to Intervention (RTI) approach to identifying struggling learners early and providing them with interventions that they need to achieve academic success. The RTI Action Network is a coordinated effort with a core group of national partners to disseminate RTI information, tools and resources via the Web and national and regional conferences. The national partners have been selected to reach stakeholders ranging from elementary school principals and school psychologists to general education teachers and reading specialists in order to promote the effective use of RTI models. Since its inception in 2008 The RTI Action Network Web site--the principal delivery channel for information--has served more than 380,000 individuals. Over 100,000 educators have participated in the Network's professional development events at partner conferences and other venues. RTI Leadership Network: The RTI Leadership Network is a project of the RTI Action Network. The project supports district and building leaders in the effective implementation of RTI. Each participant is coached and mentored on how to proceed to get results for improved student achievement through individual on-demand contact combined with monthly group calls and online conferences. The participants also join an online community of colleagues to share ideas, discuss resources, and brainstorm solutions. Piloted during the 2009-2010 school year, we anticipate 225 school leaders who will make decisions influencing 3 million children in the 2010-2011 school year.Parents as Advocates: NCLD's Parents as Advocates program provides parents the clear, concise and accurate information and resources they need to be effective advocates for their children. As part of the program we also train a cadre of parents-a Parent Leaders team-to strengthen the national voice for children and families on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. These Parent Leaders are a critical part of our effort to educate policy and decision-makers about LD and families' perspectives on the issue of education of children with learning disabilities. 682481 ESSENTIAL INFORMATION: NCLD's Web sites, online and print newsletters and interactive programs (Talks, Webinars and Online Forums) provide parents, educators, other advocates, and the media with comprehensive information. Part X: Description of Uncertain Tax Positions Under FIN 48: On July 1, 2009, NCLD adopted the accounting standard accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, ("ASC 740," formerly FASB Interpretation No. 48), which addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under this guidance, NCLD may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes also addresses derecognition, classification, interest and penalties on income taxes, and accounting in interim periods. Management evaluated NCLDs tax positions concluded that NCLD had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance. With few exceptions, NCLD is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the federal, state or local tax authorities for years before 2006, which is the standard statute of limitations look-back period.
