As an "electronic Main Street," it is a community center where people of all ages can meet to gather information and educational resources, and find entertainment. IdahoPTV accomplishes this mission by: * Providing quality educational and cultural television and related resources; * Creating Idaho-based programs and resources; * Establishing and maintaining statewide industry-standard delivery systems to provide television and other media to Idaho homes and schools; * Providing learning opportunities and fostering participation and collaboration in educational and civic activities; and * Attracting, developing, and retaining talented and motivated employees who are committed to accomplishing the shared vision of Idaho Public Television. F990_P03_S00_L01 Form 990, Part III, Line 1 Since 1982, IdahoPTV has operated as a statewide system. It is an agency of the State of Idaho overseen by the Idaho State Board of Education. Headquartered in Boise, the system has 5 digital transmitters at the following sites: Boise, Twin Falls, Pocatello, Moscow and Coeur d'Alene - as well as 41 translators, which expand the analog broadcast signal throughout the mountainous state. Broadcast programming on IdahoPTV reaches approximately 155,000 homes each week which mirror Idaho's population demographic. Programs target small groups of viewers with diverse interests and tastes who look to IdahoPTV to provide programs not generally found on commercial or cable TV. Broadcast programming available on IdahoPTV is analyzed as follows: Children's Basic Skills 37%; News/Business/Public Affairs 21%; Formal Instruction 14%; Arts & Humanities 14%; Skills & Hobbies 7%; Nature/Science/Health 6%; Other 1% * Does not include microwave-delivered classes. Idaho Public Television also maintains a website at idahoptv.org which reflects and complements the broadcast programming available on both analog and digital channels. In addition, this website offers enhanced resources for parents, caregivers, children, students and citizens who look beyond television to supplement their life experience. F990_P06_S0B_L11 Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11 Idaho Public Television senior financial specialist fills out the Form 990 and related schedules, it is then reviewed by the director of finance, with a final review being done by the general manager before final signature. F990_P06_S0B_L12c Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The board of directors conducts reviews at least annually and periodically throughout the year. F990_P06_S0C_L19 Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 All documents are available upon request. Our tax year covers July 1 thru June 30. Once the tax year is complete, we compile annual financial reports, which are then audited. We do not receive the final audited financial statements until December of each year. Therefore, we are unable to file Form 990 by the deadline of November 15th for any year. We typically file Form 8868 each year requesting an extension. However, this past fall we had turnover in four of our six accounting positions, including a senior financial specialist and the director of finance. These transitions occurred between September and December of 2010 during which time we were trying to prepare annual financial statements and undergoing our annual audit. The filing of Form 8868 was overlooked during this extensive transition. We have taken steps to ensure this oversight does not occur in future years.
