The syringe access services program completed 21,547 direct client contacts with IDUs exchanging a total of 2.2 million syringes during 1,490 exchange session hours. The Stonewall and Speed Projects provided 12,018 clients with 3,760 hours of targeted prevention services, including support groups, workshops and events. 3857581 0 0 The housing services program provided housing assistance during the fiscal year. 427 clients in the agency's three long-term rental subsidy programs (partial, shallow and full rental subsidies) were provided a total of 137,221 nights of rental assistance. 3225209 0 0 The foundation's community based health and prevention services include Magnet, Black Brothers Esteem and Latino Programs. Magnet, SFAFs health clinic for gay men in the Castro, completed 24,648 STD testing encounters, 3,238 STD treatment encounters, and 5,534 HIV testing and counseling encounters. The Black Brothers Esteem program provided 287 clients with 938 hours of targeted prevention services, including drop-in support groups, workshops, and events. The Latino program served more than 150 people with on-going skills building process groups and health workshops. The program assisted 175 youth in accessing HIV testing and trained 250 parents on HIV prevention and the importance of knowing one's HIV status. In addition, 45 HIV community health workers were trained, 3 research projects were initiated and 3 bi-lingual training manuals were completed. 2739713 0 0 Advocacy and Education includes our research and evaluation program, treatment publications and legislative affairs program. Research and Evaluation activities include translating developments in HIV/AIDS science for all SFAF stakeholders, and developing the research and evaluation capacity of SFAF staff. Specific activities in 2010/2011 included the following: Published four issues of BETA (Bulletin of Experimental Treatments for AIDS), 2 in English and 2 in Spanish. Continued SFAF's public forum series, HIVision and held two forums on HIV and Aging: Now What?, and Cure: Is it Still a Four-Letter Word? Led SFAF involvement in the potential implementation of a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) demonstration project in San Francisco. Orchestrated the participation-including oral and poster presentations-of SFAF staff in HIV/AIDS conferences. Continued leadership on the Steering Committee of the Coalition for a National AIDS Strategy and monitored the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, including its research components. The legislative affairs department achieved success at both the state and federal level. At the federal level SFAF advocated to ensure that federal care and resources through the Ryan White program were not targeted for reduction and that a key policy rider "Stop Loss" was maintained by Congress and implemented by the Administration based on established criteria resulting in sustained supplemental funding for the San Francisco eligible metropolitan area. We were instrumental in the CDC's Black MSM Media Workgroup process resulting in the "Testing Makes Us Stronger" HIV testing campaign initiated in Oakland, CA and 7 other cities. SFAF is leading the national analysis and policy debates on how essential housing resources should be distributed to jurisdictions targeted to people living with HIV/AIDS through the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA). SFAF developed the policy analysis that is shaping the community debate and informing the federal response to mandates in the National HIV/AIDS Strategy to modernize formula distribution mechanisms. At the state level we were successful in advocating for full funding of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) by pushing the state to expand the CARE/HIPP program. This expansion resulted in savings to ADAP which meant the state did not have to further cut this essential program. We also led the effort to introduce and pass successfully legislation that allows the sale of syringes in pharmacies without a prescription state wide. This will help to further expand access to sterile syringes in California, particularly in those areas that don't allow syringe access programs. 1439285 1168972 270313 The foundation provided capacity building grants, including financial and other technical services, to Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation. We also provided 68 grants to local HIV and AIDS community programs in the bay area. 718513 0 0 Care coordination included financial benefit assistance and a new program, African American Centers of Excellence. The financial benefit assistance team provided Client advocacy, financial benefits counseling, care coordination and case management for people with HIV. Of the 759 people with HIV/AIDS served this year, 89% were male, 8% were female, and 2% were transgender. The ethnicity profile of the clients served reflect that 18% were African American, 18% Latino/a, 6% Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% Native American, 53% Caucasian, and 1% other ethnicity or multi-ethnic.
