Quit Coal Activist Program - The Quit Coal Activist Program tests and refines tools for developing grassroots leadership for local campaigns to shut down coal plants, and supports community activism where Greenpeace does not have organizers. The initiative began with a Listening Phase that included over 50 interviews with activists working on coal and a visioning summit in Chicago with 14 community group participants. The listening process resulted in new connections with communities, clear feedback, and identification of challenges to and opportunities for better engaging with local communities. Following the Listening Phase, trainings were offered in several states to support local grassroots leadership development and strategic planning for upcoming local/regional campaigns. Climate Organizing Lab - The Climate Organizing Lab is a multi-organization partnership in which member groups run pilot projects to test different models of movement-building organizing, and then share their learning among partners. Greenpeace pilots focused on important principles of community engagement organizing, including: 1.) public narrative based on the values of participating individuals (story of self, us and now); 2.) interdependent leadership structure; and, 3.) locally-driven strategy development.
