The mission of the organization is to engage parents, doctors, attorneys and intersex activists in strategy discussions; stimulate legal dialogue about the fundamental rights of children born with intersex conditions or DSDs; and employ traditional and non-traditional legal tools to ensure justice for children born with intersex conditions or DSDs. These activities are grounded in a sense of respect and compassion for the children, parents, doctors and intersex adults involved. Inter/Act, the first-ever youth leadership program for youth with intersex conditions and DSD, really took off this year. Inter/Act provides a platform to bring the voices of youth with intersex conditions or DSD to the broader community, through blogging, social media, viral videos, news articles, presentations, and more. At the end of 2011 we had 15 members, including a steering committee of five, from around the country meeting through web-based platforms. Youth leaders from the program led a total of 8 workshops or presentations at hospitals, on their college campuses, or with other local groups, reaching an audience of 210 people. We debuted our new blog at inter-actyouth.tumblr.com/, and plans are in the works for many other projects. 15000 15884 Project Integrity uses legal action to protect the civil rights of children with intersex conditions/DSD, and provides legal information and referrals to members of our community. In 2011 we offered legal information and referrals to 25 intersex adults, 21 parents of children with DSD, and 5 youth. We provided 100 parents, youth, and intersex adults with "Know Your Rights" training. We also insured that intersex/DSD concerns were represented in several important policy areas, including new definitions in the DSM V, national and state school rules for athletic competition, changes to the State Department's procedures for changing sex on passports, and international human rights efforts. Finally, we provided training to the US Citizenship and Immigration Service and consulted with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees about ensuring that concerns of intersex/DSD refugees and asylum seekers are addressed. 0 24145 Medical and Public Education - Published 2 articles with 2 more accepted for publication in 2012 in medical and bioethics journals and professional magazines, reaching tens of thousands of readers. Provided legal and ethical consultation to 4 major hospitals regarding the rights of children with intersex conditions/DSD. Presented about rights of children with intersex conditions/DSD to audiences nationwide at medical and legal conferences, patient advocacy groups, and medical and law schools, reaching an estimated 507 doctors, medical students, health professionals, lawyers, law students, bioethicists, and others. 0 12072 Leveraging resources - AIC maximizes the effect of our funding by leveraging resources. We run a virtual office, and in-kind donations of office space, legal services, travel expenses, graphic design, and other goods and services totaled $11,656 for the entire fiscal year 2010. We also made use of 8 law student interns and several other volunteers.
