SCOPE's research team delivers cutting edge information in support of our policy campaigns and incorporates analysis and findings into our popular education and organizing strategies.TRAINING AND POLICY EDUCATION: Training and Policy Education reflects a major aspect of our contribution to movement building as we increase the capacities of other social justice organizations and alliances working with poor and disadvantaged communities. Our training curriculum is based on our 15 year history and experience in community organizing, capacity building, electoral and policy campaigns,and leadership development. Our curricula includes: Power Analysis, Basic and Advanced Community Organizing, Civic Participation Strategies and Programs, GIS Mapping and Strategic Planning. Our training services and products earn income to financially support the organization's operating budget and diversify our funding streams.STATE AND NATIONAL STRATEGIES INIATIVES: Structural barriers to SCOPE's mission and goals extend beyond our immediate context to policy and decision making at state and national scales. California's eroding tax base and federal policies that emphasize military over domestic spending, for example, aggravate conditions in communities already plagued by cruel poverty and disinvestment. SCOPE's best practices and methodologies, particularly in the area of civic and voter engagement, serve as models for these movements. SCOPE engages in strategic planning and institution building for both entities and provides trainging and capacity building for the Alliance and Network member organizations.Lobbying Activities:In the beginning of year 2011 SCOPE started campaigns called California Calls to convince the voters to come and vote against the massive cuts, and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to Live, Work, and Prosper in Los Angeles. Since Congress is proposing up to $2 Billion in budget cuts to the L.A. region. And these cuts will have a devastating impact on economic recovery and on the basic services for LA.California Calls is an independent alliance of amazing groups and organizations all over state that are committed to revitalizing the California dream - that ensures authentic economic opportunity for all. By reforming outdated tax laws and bad budget policies. California Calls believe real stars are the heroes who make lasting impressions by working to make California better. And want to spotlight the everyday people who make California so very exceptional. It is working to shift political power back into the hands of people.
