The Foundation was formed to enhance educational opportunities for the city's public school children; the goal to supplement funding for programs which are already supported by public ffinancing at a basic level, but which can be substantially improved by additional private sector financing, and to finance programs that might not receive funding from traditional sources such as the district budget of state aid. 0 0 64473 Newburyport Education Foundation continues the mission to enable regular replacement and upgrade of technology resources, as well as building toward meeting state technology benchmarks for all schools. Three projects fall into this category in 2012:1) New hardware and software was installed at the Nock Middle school to create a new state-of-the-art Robotics lab. Middle school students can now study the principles of mechanical engineering, electronics and computer programming as they design, build and mobilize remote control and autonomous robots. This new program also prepares students for more advanced courses at the high school.2) A robust wireless system was installed in the high school in 2011 and technology is in use like never before. To complete this project, wireless was installed at the Nock Middle School in 2012.3) Technology enhancements in 2012 included the purchase of 28 Nook e-readers, and related equipment, for the middle school library. 148216 The Newburyport Education Foundation transformed the outdated High School library into the state-of-the-art Institution for Savings Library and Media Center. The Foundation evaluates all significant tax positions as required by generally accepted accounting principles in the United States. As of December 31, 2012, the Foundation does not believe that it has taken any tax positions that would require the recording of any additional tax liability. The Foundations tax returns are subject to examination by taxing authorities generally for three years after they were filed.
