US Ignite fosters the creation of novel applications and digital experiences that have the potential to transform areas of national priority such as healthcare, education and job skills training, public safety, energy, and advanced manufacturing. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) initiated the concept that forms the basis for US Ignite's activities and works with US Ignite to further these purposes. US Ignite serves as a coordinating organization and a clearing house for network, funders, and in-kind contributions to this effort. US Ignite directs contributions of network equipment to municipal, carrier, and research institution networks to give them access to the GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovation) network.US Ignite conducted a major launch event with over 300 participants, hosted at the White House on June 14, 2012. This event brought together stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and local communities to kick off a conversation about applications for next generation networks.US Ignite began working with innovators and developers on over 20 applcation development projects in its 10 target communities across the United States. US Ignite was billed based on hourly rates. After May 2012, all directors of US Ignite received compensation from US Ignite. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 3 US Ignite contracted with the firm, Widelity, Inc., for management services provided by Joseph Kochan, Susan Spradley, and Willilam Wallace. To ensure US Ignite operates in a manner consistent with charitable purposes and does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status, periodic reviews shall be conducted. US Ignite's Board of Directors has reviewed and approved an annual budget and compensation information for US Ignite staff. Independent menbers of the Board of Directors have nominated an audit and finance committee to further review this information for 2013 and to benchmark it against similar organizations.
