Classics 4 Kids (C4K) served about 20,000 students from public, private and home schools in San Diego County. Programs are designed to provide multiple layers of arts experiences and arts learning to creatively engage students and teachers during the school day. They deliver specialized arts curriculum embedded in academic lessons and use the arts as an entry point for classroom learning. Students in grades K-5 learn to critically assess, derive meaning from, and respond to works of art while developing an interest in the arts and other academic subjects. C4K creates, interprets and performs multi-disciplinary musical works through interaction between the conductor, musicians and performers with the young people in our audiences. Our innovative program helped stimulate young minds, develop creative skills and has help build the next generation of diverse audiences through:12 Student Concerts: Created by C4K and performed by the Classics Philharmonic in the historic Balboa Theatre. Concerts offer children an unparalleled age-appropriate introduction to music and the performing arts. Our unique approach of combining relevant music instruction from the stage with entertaining, interactive concerts captures both the attention and imagination of our young audiences 8 Professional Development Workshops and Lessons: Instructed classroom teachers in arts integration3 sets of Curriculum developed by C4K, in collaboration with SDUSD, provided arts lessons that include CA State standards and easily replicable thematic lessons to further cross-curricular learning. Literacy Links: a literary selection about a composer or music to be performed Follow Up: Activities in the classroom allow students to reflect, connect , apply and derive meaning from their concert experience Assessment: participating teachers provide feedback on their C4K experience which enables us to better serve their students. Student learning is measured through pre and post testing.5 Sunday Family Concerts were performed for Family AudiencesIn school assemblies were performed at schools throughout San Diego County
