<Description>Program Service-2012Give Light Foundation continued its growth through the support of many generous donors who share our passion of changing the world. In 2012, it supported more than 800 orphans in many countries with details as follow:1. Aceh, Indonesia A. Since 2005 we have been supporting orphans who are living in the orphanage in Takengon, Indonesia. Our oldest child, Nur Samawi graduated in December 2012 with a Bachelor degree in Economics and is now working for a non Profit organization in Bandung West Java. She is an example for all our younger children because of her academic achievements and excellent character.Five orphans have graduated from High School and are now in College (2 in Jakarta and 3 in Aceh). One of them, Rahmat Mico got the highest score in his department in Biology and got a two-year scholarship. We are supporting 44 orphans living in the orphanage in Aceh. Most of the kids are highly motivated and have a deep love of learning. There were four volunteers from the US who went and taught at the orphanage in 2012: Naurin Beig, Amina Khan, Rabia Khan and Leena Khan. They were pleasantly surprised to see how eager the kids were to learn new skills, especially English and art. Because of their motivation and the dedication of our volunteers, the kids are making significant improvement in English, Computer skills and they even learned how to blog.B. Supporting orphans in Banda Aceh, IndonesiaWe continue to sponsor orphans who are living with poor relatives in Banda Aceh as well as twenty five children who live in another orphanage called Ruhul Ilmi in Meulaboh, West Java. The kids are doing well in school and some were top performers in school while the rest are eager to learn and become good citizens. Our staff monitored their progress by paying regular visits and sending volunteers to ensure the kids are cared for. The children also sends letters and emails to our US team sharing their positive progress and experiences.2. Rawalpindi, PakistanA. The orphanage in Rawalpindi is now home to 60 girls orphaned girls (vs. 40 in 2011). After 2 years of operation we decided to send the kids to public schools instead of schooling them internally. This gives them the opportunity to interact with other children and not feel isolated. The girls are doing well academically and they are learning a lot of fun things such as growing their own organic garden and farm. One of the founders is living with his family next to the orphanage and the children are attached to him and his wife and they are seen as the caring grandparents. We sent many volunteers from the US who brought them presents and took the girls on picnic and field trips.B. We continue to sponsor 160 orphans who are living with poor relatives/single moms in earthquake affected areas of Pakistan and Kashmir through partnership with Helping Hands. 3. BangladeshWe sponsored one meal a day for 300 orphans in Darus Sunat, Bangladesh. These children were only having two meals prior to getting help from Give Light We also built 10 new bathrooms for them as they had suffered for years in sharing only three bathrooms for the entire orphanage. We sent 2 US volunteers in 2012 to teach there for a week. Their names are Alaeddin Bakri and Bedr Bakri. They both visited our Aceh home in 2011 and was impressed by the experience. They said that Sri Lanka home is event better and it is a state of the art.4. AfghanistanWe also started construction of a new orphanage in Savar on land donated to Givelight by a generous family. This will be a home for 50 orphaned girls. We sponsored 17 orphans in Kabul through partnership with Omeid International. They currently live in a rented house because we don't feel it is secure to build a permanent home yet due to volatile political climate in Afghanistan. Our goal is to start small, save a few lives and learn our way to hopefully help more children every year. Once we secure a donated land, our long term goal is to build a home for 50 orphans in Kabul. We also bought new shoes for 16 boys living in in an orphanage in Kabul through partnership with Orphan House Foundation.5. HaitiOur partner Zakat Foundation had to stop working on orphans project in Haiti in 2012. We had to put our project on hold until we find a credible organization to partner with.6. SomaliaWe began sponsoring 100 orphans in Somalia through a partnership with Red Horn Africa in November of 2010. Through this sponsorship, those kids are fed, clothed and able to get education. We also sent them special gifts from school in Santa Clara, which allowed them to have a feast celebration. We plan to continue this work in Somalia and expand to different countries in Africa. 7. Sri LankaWe started our orphanage construction in Atulugama in 2012. The capacity is for 50-60 boys and we raised most of the funds needed to complete the building on targeted timing. 8. San Francisco Bay Area, California, United StatesWe continue to provide scholarship for 10 orphans living in the San Francisco Bay Area. These children go to Silicon Valley Academy and are doing much better academically compared to when they went to public schools. We also provide each one of them with a mentor to ensure they have one on one attention.9. Samoa Pacific IslandWe sponsored 10 orphans who were affected by the tsunami in 2011 that hit the Samoa Pacific Islands. Our long term goal is to increase the sponsorship to more orphans and we intend to provide education to all children at least until they reach high school. 10. CambodiaGivelight received a generous donation FUTURE GOALS:Our goal for 2013- 2015 is to expand our service to more countries where there are many orphans and we have identified trustworthy partners/volunteers. Specifically: a. Bangladesh. Complete the construction of our home by the end of 2014 b. Morocco. A piece of land was donated to Givelight in 2012 and we raised enough fund to begin construction once the building permit was obtained. c. Cambodia and Sri Lanka. Make sure that these 2 new homes are running efficiently on up to the standard we have set in Aceh home. As in the past 8 years, our volunteers remain motivated to donate their time, energy and expertise based on the shared vision of helping as many orphans as we can. From sponsoring 50 orphans in 2005, we have grown in manifold and are now supporting more than 800 orphans and we are confident that we can save thousands more in the years to come.</Description>
