Further, RNM is committed to addressing the need to remove conditions that lead to abject poverty, cycles of disease and ill health, especially among children and women through sustainable development. This includes addressing a lack of basic life's skills or inadequate job skills which leads to low productivity & development in targeted communities. We focus on alleviating acute shortages of sanitary drinking water which significantly contribute to poor health & hygiene among the poor and disenfranchised. A. Water Wells - (i) RNM drilled 11 new wells in 2012, and rehabilitation of 4 existing wells - all serving approximately 41,000 people, and thousands of livestocks. (ii) WASH - In addition, in 2012, RNM trained some nationals and hundreds of elementary and Secondary School students in Nigeria on WASH (Water And Sanitation Hygiene) to help improve overall community health in schools, villages and urban centers. 1. ABIA State: Completed 6 deep wells at AMABA area by mid-year, and drilled 3 other shallow wells. Ebenezer I, II, and V Rig and Water trucks had serious engine problems requiring a lot of money to repair the old vehicles and took much longer than expected in terms of service down-times because often finding US auto parts in Africa was difficult. Additional emergency funds were raised to accomplish the land / workshop properties by Sep. 2012. 2. IMO State: 1 deep well at Pump Repair and well service checks in Orlue / Ogberuru areas 3. Benue State: 6 wells done 5000 X 143500 B. RNM conducted 2 Medical Outreaches - 2 in IMO State - at Owerri and ORLU - the University Teaching Hospital. Team was assisted by Dr. Ben Mbata of TotalCare Clinics, and 3 other local doctors and nurses to serve over 1500 patients in the delivery of primary health care, oral health care / dental exams and surgical removal of erupt teeth; eye exams and basic care / delivery of over 350 reading glasses to the elderly. In addition, several health hygiene training sessions were organized at many locations in Imo, Abia, and Benue States. 500 X 5500 C.
