SEE SCHEDULE O FOR COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION.COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION MWA IS THE CENTRAL SOURCE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION ON WATERFRONT ISSUES IN THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN AREA. MWA PROVIDES A VARIETY OF FORUMS TO DECISION MAKERS AND THE PUBLIC FOR EDUCATION, DISCUSSION, PLANNING, AND COLLABORATION ON THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY HARBOR. THESE DIVERSE PLATFORMS ARE INVALUABLE RESOURCES TO CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, THE STATES OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY, AND THE CITY OF NEW YORK. THE ALLIANCETHE ALLIANCE GREW IN 2012 TO A COALITION OF OVER 700 CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS, RECREATIONAL ENTHUSIASTS, UTILITIES, UNIONS, COMPANIES, LOCAL ACTIVISTS, AND MORE, THAT CARE ABOUT IMPROVING THE WATERFRONT. MWA CONVENES ALLIANCE PARTNERS TO WORK TOWARD OUR SHARED VISION OF A HARBOR AND WATERWAYS ALIVE WITH COMMERCE, RECREATION, AND TRANSPORTATION. IN TURN, MWA PROVIDES ALLIANCE PARTNERS WITH IMPORTANT VENUES, LIKE THE CITY OF WATER DAY FESTIVAL, WHERE THEY CAN ENGAGE THE GENERAL PUBLIC, PROMOTE THEIR WORK, AND DEVELOP LASTING, MUTUALLY-BENEFICIAL RELATIONSHIPS. NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY HARBOR COALITIONMWA AND THE NATIONAL PARKS CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION JOINTLY CHAIR THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY HARBOR COALITION, AN COALITION OF COMMUNITY GROUPS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO SECURE BETTER FUNDING FOR OUR REGION IN ORDER TO REVITALIZE AND RESTORE THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY HARBOR'S ECOLOGY, PARKS AND RECREATION, COMMERCE AND TRANSPORTATION. MWA MADE PROGRESS IN 2012 SUCCESSFULLY BUILDING AND GROWING THE HARBOR COALITION'S NATIONAL CAMPAIGN.IN 2012 MWA AND THE HARBOR COALITION GREW ITS MEMBERSHIP AND BROADENED ITS COMMUNICATION EFFORTS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE COALITION AND MWA ENGAGED A WIDER RANGE OF ORGANIZATIONS WITH MORE DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES, AS WELL AS GRASSROOTS ADVOCATES WHO ENGAGED THEIR OWN MEMBERS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HARBOR. IN ADDITION, THE COALITION CREATED AN ONLINE SIGN-UP PROCESS AND SECURED COMMITMENTS TO JOIN THE HARBOR COALITION FROM ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS. OVER 25 MWA ALLIANCE PARTNERS SIGNED ON AS SUPPORTERS OF THE COALITION AND THOUSANDS INDIVIDUALS PLEDGED THEIR SUPPORT DURING 2012. MWA AND THE COALITION PARTICIPATED IN NUMEROUS OUTREACH EVENTS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE HARBOR'S NEEDS, DISTRIBUTE COLLATERAL, AND SIGN UP SUPPORTERS, INCLUDING AT HUDSON COUNTY'S EARTH DAY EVENT, MWA'S CITY OF WATER DAY, AND THE NEW JERSEY MEADOWLANDS COMMISSION'S RIVER BARGE PARK FESTIVAL. WATERFRONT COMMUNICATIONSMWA REACHES A BROAD RANGE OF INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS THROUGH ITS MANY COMMUNICATION TOOLS. THE ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER WATERWIRE WAS DISTRIBUTED TO OVER 8,000 READERS TWICE A MONTH. THIS NEWSLETTER IS A RELIABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON POLICY, NEWS, AND THE ALLIANCE, AND ALSO CONTAINS LINKS TO THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA'S WATERFRONT REPORTING. MWA'S WEBSITE IS A SOURCE OF RICH CONTENT INCLUDING PUBLICATIONS, RESEARCH, AND EVENT INFORMATION REGARDING THE WATERFRONT AND THE HARBOR. MWA'S SEMI-ANNUAL PRINTED NEWSLETTER FEATURES A SUMMER RECREATION CALENDAR AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE SEASON'S MOST IMPORTANT WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENTS. IN 2012 MWA COMPLETED AND RELEASED ON ITS WEBSITE THE NEWEST VERSION OF MWA'S SUMMER GUIDE OF LOW- AND NO-COST WATERFRONT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES, SPLASH! THIS GUIDE PROVIDES INFORMATION ABOUT WATER-BASED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT CAN BE USED BY CAMPS, SCHOOLS, AND INDIVIDUALS TO EXPLORE THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN REGION'S WATERFRONT AND NATURAL RESOURCES. WATERFRONT CONFERENCEANOTHER PLATFORM FOR SHARING INFORMATION AND IDEAS ABOUT THE REGIONS WATERFRONT AND HARBOR ISMWA'S WATERFRONT CONFERENCE, WHICH GATHERS LEADING WATERFRONT ADVOCATES, POLITICIANS, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, COMMUNITY AND BUSINESS LEADERS, SCIENTISTS, AND POLICYMAKERS TO SHARE IDEAS AND DEVELOP STRATEGIES FOR REVITALIZING THE WATERFRONT. MWA'S WATERFRONT CONFERENCE IS A UNIQUE WAY TO ACHIEVE MULTIPLE GOALS - EDUCATING LEADERS, BRINGING TOGETHER MWA'S CONSTITUENCY, GENERATING POLICY IDEAS, AND BUILDING MOMENTUM FOR NEW WATERFRONT THINKING. THE 2012 WATERFRONT CONFERENCE, OUR HARBOR: AN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINE AND ECONOMIC RESOURCE, ATTRACTED OVER 650 PARTICIPANTS OVER TWO DAYS. CLIMATE CHANGE, SEA LEVEL RISE, AND COASTAL FLOODING WERE MAJOR TOPICS OF DISCUSSION. A KEYNOTE PRESENTATION FROM PROMINENT INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIST, CYNTHIA ROSENZWEIG, NEW YORK CITY DEPUTY MAYOR CASWELL HOLLOWAY, AND OTHERS WAS FOLLOWED BY A PANEL ANALYZING THE MANY PLANS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE PREPARATION AROUND THE HARBOR. THIS PANEL INCLUDED LEADERS FROM NEW YORK STATE, NEW YORK CITY, NEW JERSEY, AND LEADING CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS. THE CONFERENCE ALSO FOCUSED ATTENTION ON OUR COLLECTIVE EFFORTS TO CLEAN OUR WATERS, PROVIDE BETTER ACCESS, GREEN THE PORT AND WATERFRONT INDUSTRY, BUILD A FERRY NETWORK, AND CREATE WATERFRONT JOBS. THESE TOPICS AND MANY OTHERS WERE EXPLORED BY LEADING ACTIVISTS, EXPERTS, AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. THE SECOND DAY OF THE CONFERENCE HAD 100 PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN PANEL DISCUSSIONS ABOUT WATERFRONT ACCESS AND ISSUES AFFECTING THE HUMAN POWERED BOATING COMMUNITY.CITY OF WATER DAYCITY OF WATER DAY IS A UNIQUE AND INCLUSIVE ANNUAL EVENT THAT CELEBRATES THE WORLD-CLASS POTENTIAL OF THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY WATERFRONT, WITH A FOCUS ON ENGAGING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES THROUGH FUN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. FREE, FAMILY-FOCUSED EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:- GUIDED HARBOR BOAT TOURS FOR THOUSANDS OF PASSENGERS ON HISTORIC, EDUCATIONAL, AND WORKING VESSELS COVERING TOPICS FROM HARBOR ECOLOGY TO ESTUARY ECONOMICS;- TOUCH TANKS OF MARINE CREATURES;- HANDS-ON PROJECTS THAT TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF REDUCING WASTE THROUGH COMPOSTING;- FISHING IN THE NEW YORK HARBOR;- TABLE DISPLAYS FOR UP TO 250 WATERFRONT, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND HISTORIC NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON WHAT THEY DO.A RECORD NUMBER OF ATTENDEES TURNED OUT FOR EVENTS ON GOVERNORS ISLAND (NY), LIBERTY STATE PARK (NJ), AND NUMEROUS LOCAL CITY OF WATER DAY "IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD" EVENTS. MWA ESTIMATES TOTAL CITY OF WATER DAY ATTENDANCE WAS 28,000. MWA'S TASK FORCESMWAS TASK FORCES OF WATERFRONT EXPERTS AND ADVOCATES, WHICH FOCUS ON HARBOR EDUCATION, AQUATECTURE, GREEN HARBOR, WATER MASS TRANSIT, HARBOR RECREATION, AND THE WORKING WATERFRONT, HAVE BEEN ACTIVE SINCE 2007. MWA TASK FORCES MEET TO ADVANCE WATERFRONT EDUCATION, DEVELOP FERRY SERVICE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND RETHINK WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT. THE TASK FORCES SYNTHESIZE COMPETING AGENDAS BY BRINGING TOGETHER EXPERTS IN VARIOUS FIELDS WHO, TOGETHER, SET PRIORITIES. EVERY YEAR MWA'S SIX TASK FORCES TAKE STEPS TO ENSURE THAT KEY PROVISIONS OF THE NEW YORK CITY COMPREHENSIVE WATERFRONT PLAN ARE BROUGHT TO FRUITION AND INTEGRATED INTO THE CITY'S OPERATIONS. SEVERAL IMPORTANT TASK FORCE MEETINGS WERE HELD IN 2012:1) THE AQUATECTURE AND GREEN HARBOR TASK FORCES MET TO DEVELOP PLANS FOR WATERFRONT DESIGN GUIDELINES AND TO ESTABLISH A WORKING GROUP THAT WILL BEGIN WORKING ON THE CREATION OF THESE GUIDELINES. 2) THE HARBOR EDUCATION TASK FORCE MET TWICE TO DISCUSS THE HARBOR LITERACY POINTS DOCUMENT. THE HARBOR LITERACY POINTS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS BY MWA'S HARBOR EDUCATION TASK FORCE AS A LEARNING TOOL FOR EDUCATORS, STUDENTS, AND THE PUBLIC. THE DOCUMENT INCLUDES FIVE INDIVIDUAL "LITERACY POINTS," RELEVANT VOCABULARY, WAYS TO PARTICIPATE, AND APPLICABLE NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS. IT WAS CREATED TO BE A GUIDELINE OF WHAT NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR UNIQUE HARBOR.3) IN MARCH OF 2012, THE HARBOR EDUCATION TASK FORCE MET AND EXPRESSED A DESIRE FOR THE HARBOR LITERACY POINTS DOCUMENT TO BE SPLIT INTO THREE DIFFERENT AND SUCCINCT DOCUMENTS, EACH GEARED TOWARDS DIFFERENT AUDIENCES. DISCUSSIONS ALSO LED TO THE SUGGESTION OF THE CREATION OF AN ONLINE INTERACTIVE WEBSITE FOR WHICH A PROTOTYPE WAS DEVELOPED BY MWA IN 2012. THE WEBSITE SERVES AS A WAY FOR STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO UTILIZE THE HARBOR LITERACY POINTS IN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS, AND TO SHARE COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS, AND INSPIRATION WITH EACH OTHER. AT THE END OF 2012 THE HARBOR EDUCATION TASK FORCE MET AGAIN TO DISCUSS FINAL EDITS TO THE WEBSITE, THE HARBOR LITERACY POINTS DOCUMENT, AND WAYS TO DISSEMINATE THESE RESOURCES TO EDUCATORS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN THE REGION.

SEE SCHEDULE O FOR THE ALLIANCE AND POLICY INITIATIVES.THE ALLIANCE AND POLICY INITIATIVES UTILIZING THE EXPERTISE OF OUR ALLIANCE PARTNERS AND OUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WORKING ON WATERFRONT ISSUES, MWA HAS PRIORITIZED THE FOLLOWING POLICY INITIATIVES. THESE PRIORITIES REPRESENT AREAS WHERE MWA'S UNIQUE STRENGTHS IN REPUTATION, EXPERIENCE AND CONSENSUS-BUILDING ALLOW US TO ADVANCE A PROGRESSIVE WATERFRONT POLICY FOR THE ENTIRE REGION.MWA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND MWA'S 12-POINT PLAN FOR SEA LEVEL RISEIMMEDIATELY AFTER SUPERSTORM SANDY, MWA RESPONDED WITH A CALL FOR NEW YORK CITY TO PREPARE FOR STORM SURGES AND SEA LEVEL RISE USING A VARIETY OF METHODS THAT DO NOT RELY EXCLUSIVELY ON SEA WALLS AND COASTAL STORM SURGE BARRIERS. MWA'S PUSH TO BROADEN THE DEBATE ABOUT HOW TO PREPARE THE CITY CONTINUED WITH THE PUBLICATION OF MWA'S 12 POINT PLAN FOR SEA LEVEL RISE. THE 12 POINT PLAN FOR SEA LEVEL RISE WAS RELEASED AT MWA'S GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN NOVEMBER 2012. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ATTRACTED OVER 200 ADVOCATES WHO CAME TOGETHER TO DISCUSS THE EFFECTS OF THE STORM ON THE REGION AND TO GALVANIZE SUPPORT FOR ACTION TO ADDRESS COASTAL FLOODING ALONG WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE THE NEW YORK CITY WATERFRONT. CITY HALL, STAFF OF CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR, CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, AND VOLUNTEER GROUPS USED MWA'S 12 POINT PLAN FOR SEA LEVEL RISE IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2012 TO DEVELOP THEIR POLICY POSITIONS AND TO ADVOCATE FOR PROGRESSIVE, DECENTRALIZED, ECOLOGICALLY SENSITIVE, AND MULTI-PRONGED STRATEGIES TO PROTECT OUR WATERFRONT AND CITY.WATERFRONT PERMITTING PROGRAMWATERFRONT PERMITTING THROUGHOUT THE REGION CONTAINS ITS OWN SET OF CHALLENGES. THE NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY WATERFRONT CONTAINS MULTIPLE DISTRICTS AT VARIOUS LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT, RESULTING IN A COMPLICATED PERMITTING PROCESS THAT DISCOURAGES ALL BUT THE LARGEST DEVELOPERS. IN 2012 MWA CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE WATERFRONT PERMITTING PROCESS AND WORKED WITH ITS PARTNERS TO CREATE A ONE-STOP-SHOP FOR PERMITTING ASSISTANCE TO HELP COMMUNITY GROUPS, MARITIME BUSINESSES, AND PARKS PARTNERS DEVELOP WATERFRONT PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT THE CITY AND HELP TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR NEW YORK.REGIONAL FERRY SERVICEMWA FORMALLY ESTABLISHED A NEW PROGRAM IN 2012 TO ADVOCATE FOR BETTER FERRY SERVICE IN THE NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY REGION AND POSITION MWA AS THE FERRY CHAMPION FOR THE HARBOR. THE PURPOSE OF MWA'S NEW FERRY PROGRAM IS TO ADVOCATE FOR BETTER UPLAND CONNECTIVITY, ADVOCATE FOR FARE INTEGRATION AMONG TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN THE REGION, AND PROTECT AND EXPAND FERRY SERVICE IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA. IN 2012 MWA FINALIZED ITS STRATEGY, WORK PLAN, AND STAFFING PLAN FOR THIS PROGRAM AND BEGAN DEVELOPING A FERRY TRANSPORTATION WEBPAGE TO HELP PEOPLE BETTER FIND FERRY ROUTE INFORMATION.DEPARTMENT OF THE WATERFRONTMWA CONTINUED TO WORK IN 2012 WITH NEW YORK CITY LEADERS AND EXPERTS TO DEVELOP AND ANALYZE PLANS FOR IMPROVING GOVERNANCE OF THE NEW YORK CITY WATERFRONT. A NEW COORDINATING AND GOVERNANCE ENTITY WOULD PLAY A KEY ROLE IN ALLOWING NEW YORK CITY TO BETTER MANAGE ITS WATERWAYS AND SHORELINES HOLISTICALLY, EFFICIENTLY, AND WITH DEDICATED FORESIGHT. A NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF THE WATERFRONT IS NEEDED TO PRIORITIZE AND COORDINATE WATERFRONT MAINTENANCE, CONSOLIDATE AND COMMUNICATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE WATERFRONT, PROMOTE INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE WATERFRONT DESIGN, COLLABORATE AT THE STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS, AND PROVIDE WATERFRONT LEADERSHIP TO ACHIEVE THE CITY'S LONG TERM WATERFRONT GOALS - IN PARTICULAR THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES ARTICULATED IN THE NEWLY UPDATED NEW YORK CITY COMPREHENSIVE WATERFRONT PLAN AND THE CITY'S PLANS FOR RECOVERING, REBUILDING, AND BEING BETTER PREPARED FOR FUTURE HURRICANES AND LARGE STORMS.

SEE SCHEDULE O FOR DIRECT SERVICE.DIRECT SERVICEMWA'S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO MAKE THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY WATERFRONT MORE ACCESSIBLE, SAFE, AND ENJOYABLE FOR EVERYONE IN THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY REGION. MWA'S DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS PROMOTE ACCESS TO THE WATERFRONT AND WATERWAYS THAT SURROUND US, AND PUT PLANS IN PLACE FOR IMPROVED ACCESS IN THE FUTURE. IN ADDITION, THESE PROGRAMS HELP EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT OUR HARBOR AND WATERWAYS, AS WELL AS PROMOTE STEWARDSHIP OF THESE INCREDIBLE RESOURCES.HARBOR CAMPHARBOR CAMP PROVIDES A MEANINGFUL, WATER-BASED SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE TO HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN IN THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY METROPOLITAN AREA - CHILDREN WHO MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE HAVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ON-WATER OR WATER-BASED EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES. MWA ACTS AS A LIAISON BETWEEN UNITED NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE SUMMER CAMPS AND PROVIDERS OF WATER-RELATED EDUCATIONAL TRIPS. IN 2012, THE SEVENTH YEAR OF MWA'S SPONSORSHIP OF HARBOR CAMP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNITED NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSES, MWA EXPANDED HARBOR CAMP PARTICIPATION TO INCLUDE NEW PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE SOUTH STREET SEAPORT MUSEUM, BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK KAYAK PROGRAM, AND THE RIVER PROJECT. ALSO FOR THE FIRST TIME, MWA OFFERED HARBOR CAMP TRIPS TO CHILDREN FROM NEW JERSEY. FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR, WE PARTNERED WITH THE NEW YORK HARBOR SCHOOL. THIS PARTNERSHIP ALLOWS HARBOR CAMP MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO VISIT THE NEW YORK HARBOR SCHOOL ON GOVERNORS ISLAND TO LEARN ABOUT OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLEGE PREPARATORY EDUCATION WITH A MARITIME FOCUS. IN ALL, OVER 1060 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN HARBOR CAMP IN 2012. OUR PASSION FOR HARBOR CAMP IS BASED ON THE VISION THAT EVERY CHILD IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ON THE WATER THAT SURROUNDS AND DEFINES OUR REGION'S ECONOMY, GEOGRAPHY, ECOLOGY, AND HISTORY.DESIGN THE EDGEDESIGN THE EDGE IS A COLLABORATIVE VENTURE TO MAKE INNOVATIVE WATERFRONT DESIGN A STANDARD IN ALL WATERFRONT PROJECTS. POOR WATERFRONT DESIGN CAN LOCK AWAY OUR SHORELINE AND HAVE SIGNIFICANT ADVERSE ECOLOGICAL IMPACT ON THE WATERFRONT AND THE HARBOR. MWA'S DESIGN THE EDGE PROGRAM GATHERS LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS, MARINE ENGINEERS, MARINE BIOLOGISTS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL ARTISTS TO CHALLENGE TRADITIONAL PARADIGMS OF WATERFRONT DESIGN IN ORDER TO TRANSFORM NEW YORK CITYS MANY SHORELINES THAT ARE POORLY PLANNED AND DESIGNED. MWA HAS COMPLETED FOUR DESIGN THE EDGE PROJECTS TO DATE -HARLEM RIVER PARK, MANHATTAN; THE FAR ROCKAWAYS, BROOKLYN; PIER 17 AT SOUTH STREET SEAPORT, MANHATTAN; AND THE FINAL DESIGN THE EDGE PROJECT AT HALLETS COVE, QUEENS. IN 2012 MWA COMPLETED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DESIGN THE EDGE RESOURCE CENTER ON OUR WEBSITE AND CONCLUDED THE WATERFRONT PLAN FOR THE NORTHERN PORTION OF HALLETS COVE IN QUEENS WITH STARR WHITEHOUSE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS, GREENSHORES NYC, AND THE NEW YORK CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. FOR THE HALLETS COVE PROJECT MWA EXECUTED THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PLAN, ORGANIZED AND HELD COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND SITE VISITS, AND WORKED WITH PROJECT PARTNERS TO COMPLETE THE FINAL PLAN AND PROJECT BROCHURE WHICH CALL FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF THIS IMPORTANT STRETCH OF WATERFRONT FOR RECREATION AND COMMUNITY-BASED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.VESSEL INVENTORY DATABASEIN 2012 MWA COMPLETED AN INVENTORY OF ALL COMMERCIAL AND NONPROFIT VESSELS THAT USE OR FREQUENTLY VISIT THE NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY HARBOR. INFORMATION COLLECTED INCLUDES VESSEL DOCKING REQUIREMENTS, ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS, BOAT CAPACITY AND DIMENSIONS, HISTORIC DESIGNATION, OWNERSHIP INFORMATION, CONTACT INFORMATION, AND PRIMARY USES. MWA UPLOADED THE INVENTORY INTO A DATABASE AND RELEASED IT FOR USE BY MWA'S ALLIANCE PARTNERS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO IMPROVE DOCKING AND BERTHING ACCESS IN THE HARBOR.THE OPEN WATERS INITIATIVETHE OPEN WATERS INITIATIVE IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION AND MWA, WITH THE GOAL OF OPENING UP THE HARBOR THROUGH NEW WATERFRONT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR BOATS AND NEW LOCATIONS AROUND THE HARBOR FOR PEOPLE TO GET TO, IN, AND ON THE WATER. MWA'S PRIMARY GOAL IS TO CONSTRUCT A COMMUNITY ECO DOCK IN EACH BOROUGH.THE COMMUNITY ECO DOCK PROGRAM DEVELOPS A NETWORK OF ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND COMMUNITY DOCKS THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE BY LAND OR WATER. THEIR DESIGN ALLOWS FOR USE BY AS MANY TYPES OF BOATS AND VESSELS AS POSSIBLE WHILE PROVIDING A PLATFORM FOR WATERWAY EDUCATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION PROJECTS SUCH AS OYSTER GARDENING. IN 2012 MWA CONTINUED TO WORK TO COMPLETE THE FIRST COMMUNITY ECO DOCK WHICH WILL BE LOCATED IN BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN, AT THE 69TH STREET PIER. MWA COMPLETED DRAFT OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE PLANS FOR THE BAY RIDGE ECO DOCK AND WORKED WITH PROJECT PARTNERS TO BEGIN OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY REGARDING THE RECREATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES THE DOCK WILL PROVIDE ONCE IT IS CONSTRUCTED. MWA WORKED WITH MARITIME PROFESSIONALS AND PROJECT PARTNERS TO DETERMINE FUTURE DOCK SITES AND THROUGH THIS WORK WAS ABLE TO SECURE NEW YORK CITY PARKS DEPARTMENT FUNDING FOR THE SECOND COMMUNITY ECO DOCK, WHICH WILL BE AT THE DYCKMAN MARINA IN INWOOD, MANHATTAN. MWA ALSO WORKED WITH ITS PARTNERS AT BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK ON FINAL DESIGN PLANS FOR A KAYAK PLATFORM AT BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK WHICH WAS DEVELOPED IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR OPEN WATERS INITIATIVE.IN ADDITION, MWA AND THE HARBOR COALITION REVIEWED COMPREHENSIVE REGIONAL RESTORATION PLANS COMPLETED BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S HARBOR ESTUARY PROGRAM, THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY, THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, THE STATES OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY, MUNICIPALITIES INCLUDING THE CITY OF NEW YORK, AND COUNTLESS NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL RESTORATION PROJECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES.
