<Description>ON DECEMBER 30, 2010, HISTORIC BOULDER ACCEPTED THE DONATION OF THE HANNAH BARKER HOUSE, INTENDING TO RESTORE THE STRUCTURE. HISTORIC BOULDER HAS NEVER SHIED AWAY FROM OWNERSHIP OF HISTORIC STRUCTURES. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ORGANIZATION OR ITS MEMBERSHIP HAS OWNED THE ARNETT-FULLEN HOUSE, BOULDER THEATER AND HIGHLAND SCHOOL, ENSURING THAT THESE BUILDINGS WERE PRESERVED AND RESTORED. HISTORIC BOULDER'S OWNERSHIP OF THE HOUSE CONTINUES THIS REMARKABLE TRADITION. THE RESTORATION OF THE HANNAH BARKER HOUSE WILL REQUIRE HISTORIC BOULDER TO DEPLOY CONSIDERABLE RESOURCES. THE HOUSE IS IN A SERIOUSLY DETERIORATED CONDITION. HISTORIC BOULDER HAS ALREADY BEEN FORTUNATE TO RECEIVE MORE THAN 1,000 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER TIME, INCLUDING THE TREMENDOUS EFFORTS OF THE TALENTED HANNAH BARKER HOUSE COMMITTEE, MEMBERS OF THE SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON FRATERNITY AT CU-BOULDER AND THE BOULDER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT WORK RELEASE PROGRAM. ADDITIONALLY, GENEROUS IN-KIND DONATIONS FROM VERMILION, WALSH ENGINEERING, HIGHLAND CITY CLUB, AND TOM LYON, ARCHITECT, HAVE BEEN INTEGRAL IN BEGINNING THE RESTORATION OF THIS SIGNIFICANT LANDMARK. EVEN THOUGH HISTORIC BOULDER WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK DONATIONS AND PURSUE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES, HISTORIC BOULDER ANTICIPATES INVADING A PORTION OF THE PRINCIPAL OF ITS ENDOWMENT IN ORDER TO FUND THE PROJECT. IN 2011, PHASE ONE WAS COMPLETED. THIS PHASE FOCUSED ON EMERGENCY PROTECTION AND STABILIZATION. HISTORIC BOULDER WAS AWARDED A GRANT FROM THE STATE HISTORICAL FUND FOR 130,000 FOR PHASE TWO (FOUNDATION STABILIZATION AND MASONRY WORK) WHICH COMMENCED IN THE SPRING OF 2012. MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED AN OPEN HOUSE AT THE HANNAH BARKER HOUSE IN MAY OF 2011; MANY WERE NEIGHBORS THRILLED THAT THE HOUSE WAS BEING REHABILITATED. ALTHOUGH THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN LESSEN THE PRESSURE OF POTENTIAL DEMOLITION OR INCOMPATIBLE ADDITIONS TO BOULDER'S HISTORIC RESOURCES, HISTORIC BOULDER CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURES. THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN ALSO POSED GREAT CHALLENGES FOR FUNDRAISING - A CHALLENGE FACED BY VIRTUALLY EVERY NON-PROFIT ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HISTORIC BOULDER'S MEMBERSHIP CONTINUED TO RESPOND GENEROUSLY ESPECIALLY TO OUR NO-SHOW SHOW AND ANNUAL APPEAL. IN ADDITION TO OUR LIFE BUSINESS MEMBERS - KINGBERY BARIS VOGEL AND NUTTALL, CPAS AND ADVISORS, AND THE PEDESTRIAN SHOPS, HISTORIC BOULDER IS PLEASED TO EXPAND IT PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES THAT JOINED AS BUSINESS MEMBERS. HISTORIC BOULDER CONTINUED TO OFFER EDIFYING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE WINTER/SPRING SALON SERIES FEATURED FOUR PROMINENT WOMEN IN BOULDER'S HISTORY. IN JULY, A HARDWORKING CADRE OF VOLUNTEERS ORGANIZED THE REUSE RESALE FINDING GOOD HOMES FOR DONATED ITEMS WHILE RAISING VITAL FUNDS. THE FALL SALON SERIES: IF THESE STONES COULD TALK: TALES FROM COLUMBIA CEMETERY ILLUMINATED THE RICH HISTORY OF COLUMBIA CEMETERY. IN OCTOBER, MORE THAN 900 PEOPLE ATTENDED GHOST WALK GHOST TALK THAT FEATURED THE HANNAH BARKER HOUSE. THE YEAR CONCLUDED WITH THE 28TH ANNUAL HISTORIC HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS TOUR. ONE OF BOULDER'S MOST ENDURING HOLIDAY TRADITIONS, THE TOUR FEATURED EIGHT FABULOUS HOMES IN THE ROSE HILL NEIGHBORHOOD OF BOULDER.</Description>

<Explanation>TALENTED HANNAH BARKER HOUSE COMMITTEE, MEMBERS OF THE SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON FRATERNITY AT CU-BOULDER AND THE BOULDER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT WORK RELEASE PROGRAM. ONE OF BOULDER'S MOST ENDURING HOLIDAY TRADITIONS, THE TOUR FEATURED EIGHT FABULOUS HOMES IN THE ROSE HILL NEIGHBORHOOD OF BOULDER.</Explanation>
