<Description>In the past year, Girls on the Run of Central Illinois celebrated the 3,000th girl to joyfully complete the program and cheerfully embarked upon our biggest season yet this spring, with 664 girls enrolled. In the past year alone, Girls on the Run impacted over 1,000 girls and more than 700 volunteers and community participants through our program held at various school sites and 5k events. Due to the increased participation in our 5k events we outgrew our previous event location, but had the exciting opportunity to move to Lincoln Land Community College. This not only provided a great venue for the event, but also created an opportunity for our girls to experience being on a college campus. Importantly, our growing reach and impact has not come without many successes and tales of triumph. One 5th grade girl, once a chronic sufferer of lung and asthma issues, progressively built up her running to complete her first 5k this spring; she has since finished several more 5k's and her doctor reports strengthening of her lungs and overall health over the course of her training. But our girls will tell you this program isn't just about the running, as another girl so clearly illustrates , "Before I signed up for it, I would write notes saying, 'I'm dumb, stupid, ugly, and everyone hates me.' I don't do that anymore and I think I'm smart, kind, thoughtful, caring, a great singer and great helper." When surveyed, our coaches reinforce these successes; 99% of coaches strongly agreed or agreed that the girls at their program site were positively impacted by the curriculum and gave specific examples including: increased confidence and self-awareness; teamwork and leadership skills; civic engagement; and improved physical health and conditioning. Yet we often hear that the coaches are just as changed by their experience as the girls they work with. Last year, 95% of volunteers strongly agreed or agreed that their coaching experience was personally rewarding, "Having a young girl tell you how she handled a real life situation using a technique you taught her is impactful. Especially when you see the light on her face as she tells you how confident she feels knowing how to handle situations young girls face today. The energizing feeling is simply unexplainable until you experience it yourself." Another coach ran her first 5k at the culmination of our spring session, and has since completed several half marathons after building up her confidence and strength as a runner! As we move into our next school year, our council has even more encouraging developments on the horizon. Girls on the Run of Central Illinois was recently approved for territorial expansion in three new counties- Peoria, Tazewell and Brown. With a new movement of community support and outreach in these areas there is vast new potential that even more girls will be able to benefit from the curriculum and support of the program in future years. The Girls on the Run logo has become a fixture in many t-shirt drawers and a well-known name to many parents who have stepped up to support their girls and our program this year. We have the encouragement of local sponsors as well as a dedicated, full-time staff hoping to continue this path of successful growth and quality program delivery for another amazing year!</Description>

<Explanation>The finance committee is responsible for reviewing the Form 990 and provides important feedback in the final preparation of the Form 990 and relay pertinent information back to the full board. The finance committee is charged to look specifically for weak points in the Form 990 prior to filing. Next, the board is presented with the full 990 to identify areas that need extra analysis such as those related to the organization's mission, significant activities and relationship among board members and officers. If there is no area of concern, the board votes to approve the 990 and the treasurer signs off before transmission to the IRS.</Explanation>
