In 2012, we significantly expanded our online resource for Spanish-speaking parents and influencers, "Habla Con Tus Hijos", which provides effective, science-based resources equipping Hispanic parents and grandparents to take action in preventing teen substance abuse. The Medicine Abuse Project is one of our largest and most effective inititaives. Launched in 2012, we are rallying thousands of parents, grandparents, health care providers and law enforcement agencies to collectively help end teen medicine abuse and save lives. By working together, The Medicine Abuse Project aims to prevent half a million teens from abusing medicine within five years. Our Community Education program, PACT360, continues to roll out into new communities across the country, as well as offer new tools and resources with a revamped website: http://pact360.org/. An independent evaluation of Parents360 (the core component of PACT360) determined that the program is effective in improving parents' knowledge of substance abuse risks and in strengthening their feelings of self-efficacy - i.e., confidence that they can prevent their children from initiating drug or alcohol use. Also, we have trained more than 40,000 parents, law enforcement agents and community leaders. The Partnership stresses the importance of getting a professional assessment for a child's substance abuse problem. Our annual Partnership Attitude Tracking survey (PATS) is the longest-running national research study of parent and teen attitudes about drug and alcohol use in the United States. PATS helps The Partnership at Drugfree.org keep parents informed about what substances pose a threat to kids and families. REVIEW OF FEDERAL FORM 990 Form 990, Part VI, Line 11 Form 990 was prepared by an INDEPENDENT accounting firm in conjunction with the Partnership's financial department. A copy of the draft Form 990 was circulated to the full Board of Directors for discussion and comment. Each Board Member was provided ample opportunity to comment on the information contained in the 990 prior to its electronic filing with the Internal Revenue Service. CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C Each officer, director, trustee and key employee of the Organization is required to annually disclose any conflicts of interest that arise by virtue of their employment, board service, or position with the Organization. The Organization monitors compliance with its conflict of interest policy through an annual questionnaire/disclosure statement that is distributed to these individuals. Potential conflicts are investigated immediately. PROCESS FOR DETERMINING COMPENSATION Form 990, Part VI, Line 15 The Organization undertakes a thorough process to ensure that the executive compensation it pays to its top management official and all of its officers and key employees is reasonable given the market in which the Organization operates. The use of surveys and industry benchmarks are used for comparison, compensation review and approval by the board. AVAILABILITY OF DOCUMENTS FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION Form 990, Part VI, Line 19 Form 990 and financial statements are published on the Partnership's website. The organization's governing documents and conflict of interest policy are not ordinarily made available to the public, but, if requested, will be provided at management's discretion. Contributed Services, Media Time, and Space A substantial number of broadcast and print media, advertising agencies, and production, distribution and monitoring service companies have made significant contributions to the Partnership in the form of pro-bono advertising time and space, talent, production, and related services. In 2012, we estimated that our partners contributed over $100 million in pro-bono media support. The Partnership is dependent on these contributed services to continue its current programs, but does not control the placement of pro-bono messages in the media. The value of these contributed services is not reflected in the financial statements because such value is not easily measurable and it is not cost beneficial to attain such value.
