We hosted on average 175 children from 7:30 am to 5:00pm. We employed twenty two people at our camp most of which were teen aged children. The children who are enrolled in our camp learn arts and crafts, bible, character building, swimming, and conflict resolution. The children are also taken on two field trips a year. One of the trips are in town and one of them are out of town. They receive two hot meals a day which include breakfast and lunch. The children also receive a snack in the afternoon. Our teen counselors are given job and resume and interview training. They are also taken on a college tour at the end of the summer. Both counselors and children have the opportunity to go on a trip at the end of the summer to a christian sports camp called Kids Across America. At this camp, the kids are challenged to live a life that demonstrates positive choices, and are taught that they can do anything they put their minds to. The camp is located in Branson, Missouri and it lasts for one week during the summer. 121727 123026 Our drug and alcohol rehabilitation program serviced 66 people in 2012. Of these 66, 13 of them completed the one year program and graduated. Clients in this program are taught how to overcome their addictions through classes from 7:30am to 11:30am. After classes and lunch the clients are participating in various "sweat equity" activities which can range from cutting grass for the elderly to washing cars and picking up litter. At 5pm the men are given the opportunity to shower and eat, and then classes resume from 7pm to 9pm. The program is an all male program and has been instrumental in helping men and women be restored to their families and giving new hope. 22713 15000 Our after school homework assistance and mentoring program served an average of 27 children per day during the school year. The children arrive at Upward between 4:15 and 4:45 pm and are given a snack, homework assistance, and intensive tutoring in weak subject areas such as math and reading.
