The training academies are also the site of AUSL's Chicago Teacher Residency Program which prepares new, quality teachers using an innovative urban teacher residency based on an intense, full-year apprenticeship of learning and practice with a mentor teacher at one of AUSL's teaching academies. During the program, residents earn their Illinois teaching certification and a master's degree through a partnership with National Louis University. Upon completion of the program, AUSL-trained teachers are placed in turnaround schools to create a cohort of teachers prepared to change the culture of a chronically failing Chicago public school. Over the past decade, AUSL has trained over 500 resident teachers and 78% are still working in Chicago schools. 4608093 2894860 Turnaround Schools - AUSL turns around chronically failing Chicago public schools through a disciplined transformation process built on a foundation of staffing the school with a critical mass of specially trained AUSL teachers. The Board of Education of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) selects failing schools in need of critical transformation and contracts with AUSL to manage the turnaround process on their behalf. To lead the transformation process AUSL recommends a principal for CPS to hire. AUSL plays a pivotal role in supporting the principal in bringing on a team of teachers, many of whom are graduates of AUSL's teacher training program as well as providing new curriculum, after schools programs and other critical resources to the school which directly impact school improvement and student success. AUSL turnaround schools offer students and their families a new start after years, even decades of chronic failure. The new school leadership team and highly qualified staff bring the talent, resources and belief in students' abilities needed to get the school back on track. A new climate and culture of success at the school is based on high expectations for student achievement and the belief that all children can learn. In 2011-12, AUSL served almost 7,000 students in 12 schools. Through the advisory services, AUSL offers the tools, framework, and coaching for transformative teacher development and school management. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11 The final draft of the Form 990 is reviewed by the Executive Director and the Managing Director, Operations and Strategy. The Finance Committee reviews and provides and comments. A final copy is distributed electronically to each member of the Board of Directors. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c All employees and board members are required to complete a conflict of interest statement which is reviewed for conflicts. Annually, employees and board members are asked to sign a new form to ensure compliance. Any conflicts will be dealt with according to procedure. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 Executive Director and Managing Directors' compensation levels are reviewed annually. Periodically, compensation is benchmarked relative to officers in non-profit organizations as well as senior officers in Chicago Public Schools.
