The Organization and partners also facilitated Mission 2012 - a two day health event offering health, dental and vision services. One million dollars in medical services were delivered to 2000 people at Mission 2012. United Way of the Midlands focuses on early education and key transitions in school to improve on-time graduation. The Organization programs and community investments trained 1,125 child care professionals; matched 308 reading tutors with 424 children K-2nd grade. Teachers (90%) said tutors were effective at improving their students' reading ability. The Organization uses the Community Impact model, working with individuals and organizations to make measurable improvements in the Midlands. Community Impact work and initiatives attend to issues and needs throughout the life span but focus on supporting academic success for children and assisting people who are homeless to secure stable and decent housing and stay out of homelessness.
